Space Combat Rules

Space combat in comic books is similar to aircraft combat on our world; the combatants are relatively close with highly maneuverable ships using line-of-sight weapons. Rather than attempt a three-dimensional representation of different ships, treat Space Combat as a form of Vehicle Combat. The ships in this chapter have the following abilities (Note: In earthly terms, all these vehicles could be considered to have Unearthly or better rank speeds by virtue of Hyper drive but their speed is reduced to show the velocity involved in combat situations.)

LSH SPACE-SAUCER

Body: Rm
Control: Ex
Speed: Rm

Armament:
Rm strength Laser (4)
Ex Shields
Compartmented (4)

PLANETARY DRONES

Body: Gd
Control: Ex
Speed: In

Armament:
Rm strength Laser
No shields
Not compartmented

CONTROL SATELLITE

Body: In
Control: Gd
Speed: Ex
Am Lasers (3)
Mn Shields
No Compartments

NOTE: The control satellite cannot use its lasers when its shields are up. If it is destroyed, the drone ships control drops to Poor.

Lasers: Unless otherwise stated, each ship has one laser cannon of the stated power. Multiple cannons are all considered to be of the same level. If lasers cause more damage than the body of the ship minus the ship's shields, The ship is destroyed in a one area explosion equal to the ship's body.

Shields: An Additional form of Body for the ship, they are geared primarily to prevent energy attacks and are ineffective against physical attacks or ramming. Energy attacks are reduced by the stated amount of the shield. Further damage is inflicted on the body of the ship. Each time the body is reduced to zero, the ship loses a compartment and is damaged. If the ship has no compartments, it is destroyed.

Compartments: Certain ships are listed as compartmentalized. A compartmentalized ship has a certain number of extra rooms. Any hit which pierces the hull can be assumed to rupture on of those rooms first, before hitting one of the player characters. Player characters are assumed to be in the last airtight room on the ship. Characters in a compartment hit by fire suffer explosive decompression and are exposed to vacuum.

Running combat in space: There are a number of special rules for running combat in space regarding vehicles. Vehicles may dodge by making a control FEAT roll (and passing) and then making a speed FEAT roll using the speed as agility in combat. Multiple attacks may be made by multiple lasers. Any individual inside a ship may be designated as that ship's gunner. The gunner mans the lasers and uses his agility instead of the vehicle's control for aiming and firing.
