The Global Guardians are an international peace keeping force much like the Justice League International. They fight crime in any country where their assistance is needed. Though their popularity in some parts of Europe surpasses the JLI, the group has no official international recognition.

Although the GG are dedicated to protecting the world and working towards peace, individual members are often under the command or surveillance of their native countries and cannot give their all to the team. On occasion, members have gone rogue and been considered vigilantes.

When the Justice League gained the United Nations backing, the GG were disbanded. Without the leadership of the mysterious Doctor Mist, the GG fell under the manipulation of the Queen Bee, ruler of Bialya. The original Jack O'Lantern (Cormac), once believed dead, has been retrieved from imprisonment by Owlwoman, and Doctor Mist has returned to lead the team.

History: A reincarnated Germanic warrior, the Wild Huntsman first met American superheroes when Dr. Mist enlisted his aid against the Conqueror. The Wild Huntsman teamed up with the Wonder Twins to rescue the Controller who had been impersonating the Time Trapper. He later joined the Global Guardians.

During the Final Fight for the Global Guardians, all the members of the GG were being attacked by Fain Y'Onia, an old enemy of Dr. Mist's who had come for revenge for indignities suffered centuries ago; to Fain, this was as yesterday. In the final battle with Fain, the Huntsman disarms Fain and uses Fain's staff to heal his injured compatriots. However, Fain finally decides to return with Albrecht back to the mists of time which spawned him, so that they might do battle eternal. As the two disappear, the other Guardians comment that apparently the purpose for Albrecht's reincarnation was to battle Fain, thereby saving Dr. Mist. They also mention that someday the Wild Huntsman may return, but that will herald the return of Fain Y'Onia as well. The Wild Huntsman is given a memorial statue.

Note that Orkan and Donnerschlag disappeared with the Huntsman. The Huntsman's memorial statue has him mounted on Orkan.

History: The following was written by E. Nelson Bridwell: "As a child, Daniel Cormac was told by his grandmother of the Daoine Sidhe (pronounced Theena Shee), the fairies of Ireland. One day, Daniel caught a leprechaun who was thereby obligated to give the youth a crock of gold in exchange for his release. Instead, David [sic] let the fairy shoemaker go free. Soon after, a small man named Fergus sought shelter from a storm. Daniel recognized him as a fir dhearga (pronounced fear yaraga), who would cause great mischief if crossed. But Daniel bade the fairy welcome. Upon reaching adulthood, Daniel inherited his father's farm and was granted an audience by the fairy queen Maev. She presented him with a lantern which enabled him to do wondrous things. In this manner did Daniel Cormac become the hero of Ireland...Jack O'Lantern."

He aided Green Lantern in finding one of Grax's bombs, and was invited to join the Global Guardians after aiding Superman against Thaumar Dhai. When the Guardians disbanded, he went to work for the Queen Bee II.

QB2 decided to improve his lantern (as well as Owlwoman's powers). Obviously, she didn't have Occultist skill, so the resulting lantern was a Gadget and not an Artifact; it also seemed to lack most of its earlier powers. (Chalk this up to Keith Giffen doing absolutely no research on the characters that he used.)

After Cormac was killed, Marvin Noronsa took his place for a while. Of course, Marvin couldn't use Daniel's magic lantern and had to rely on the technological version of the lantern.

It was later revealed that the original Jack O'Lantern had not really been killed; he was rescued by Owlwoman and then forgotten by the writers. He was given a memorial statue in JLQ#17, the final fight for the Global Guardians, but his current status was not explained.

The third Jack O'Lantern was supposed to be using Daniel's lantern after Daniel's death; however, he learned to do without it eventually. I would suppose that Daniel regained his lantern after Liam (JO'L3) stopped needing it.

She helped Aquaman against Grax, helped Aquaman rescue Sinestro from the Conqueror, and helped Superman against Thaumar Dhai. She joined the Global Guardians, and was believed to have been killed by Jack O'Lantern II, but that turned out to be her evil twin. During the JLQ#17 story, the final fight for the Global Guardians, the other Guardians seemed to have forgotten that she was still alive. She was given a memorial statue.

The Fleece grants the following powers:

Superspeed AM
Body Resistance AM (50)- does not protect against gas-based attacks as the wearer's lungs are still vulnerable.
Penetration Vision IN- can only see through substances from the earth, such as stone, metal, dirt.
Animal Control EX- must be using the Musician skill.
Shape Change GD

The Fleece also bestows the following Talents:
Musician, Horsemanship, Wrestling, Archery, Martial Arts B, E, Medicine, Occult, Sea Vehicles, Melee Weapons, Diseases, Ship Building, Greek Mythology, can create a spring by striking a rock with a spear.

Contacts: Global Guardians.

History: The Olympian wears the original Golden Fleece as a cape and mask; it gives him all the powers and skills of the Argonauts. Thus, he has the speed of Euphemos, the flying power of Zetes, the invulnerability of Kaineus, the strength of Herakles, the ability to see through earth of Lynkeus, and the musical ability of Orpheus. His BODY is high, since not even the strength of Herakles could affect the invulnerability of Kaineus, who died of suffocation since his lungs were vulnerable.

He helped Wonder Woman look for one of Grax's bombs (instead, they dealt with Colonel Conquest), helped Superman free the World Beater from the Conqueror, helped Superman against Thaumar Dhai, joined the Global Guardians, and met Fury II, when the Global Guardians met Infinity Inc. He was spared from destruction during the Final Fight for the Global Guardians, and is helping to found a new version of the GGs.

During one story, he had a Subplot involving the various personalities of the Argonauts affecting his mind, making him appear to have multiple personalities.

THE ARGONAUTS:

Okay, it was kind of bugging me that I didn't know exactly who *all* the Argonauts were, so I did some research. Now I know exactly what abilities the Olympian should have. Beware, some of this may actually be educational.

First, here's a list of all the names of the Argonauts, which could be useful if one wishes to do a multiple personality subplot with the Olympian: Jason (duh), Orpheus, Zetes, Calais, Castor, Pollux, Telamon, Peleus, Herakles, Idas, Theseus, Lynceus, Ampliaraus, Caeneus (also spelled Kaineus), Palaemon, Cepheus, Laertes, Autolycus, Atalanta, Menoetius, Actor, Admetus, Acastus, Eurytus, Meleager, Ancaeus, Euphemus, Poeas, Butes, Phanus, Staphylus, Erginus, Periclymenus, Augeas, Iphiclus, Argus, Euralys, Peneleos, Leitus, Iphitus, Ascalaphus, Ialmenus, Asterius, and Polyphemos.

I advise caution when doing research on these characters, as it appears that certain names are given to more than one character, such as Polyphemos, who is a hero on the Argo and also a cyclops. See also my comments about Kaineus below.

In my research, I discovered that the Kaineus who was an Argonaut (the son of Coronus) may not have been the invulnerable Kaineus (who was originally a virginal woman, who was changed into a man and made invulnerable). I'm not absolutely sure that they are different, but it sounds like it to me. It is certainly understandable that E. Nelson Bridwell might have been sloppy in his research, when he created the character.

However, as a replacement for Kaineus, we have Meleager, who the Fates decreed would die as soon as the brand in the hearth went out; Meleager's mom immediately put the brand in a chest, where she kept it going. This made Meleager invulnerable. According to one account, he could not be killed until he ticked off his mom and she extinguished the brand; another account has him dying in battle (I don't know how). But it may be easier just to pretend that it was the same Kaineus.

History: She helped Hawkman and Hawkgirl (Silver Age versions) defeat a bomb that was in a field of complete darkness, when all attempts to shine strong light into it had failed. Hawkgirl believed that "there's no way *anyone* can see inside it! Even an owl can't see in *total* darkness!" However, Owlwoman could, despite Hawkman's claim that "That's impossible scientifically!" to which she replied, "My powers are *not* scientific in nature! Your scientists cannot study the spirit which gave them to me!"

Then, she joined the Global Guardians, and began to wear a costume more in the spirit of Native American garb. When the GGs disbanded, she and Jack O'Lantern I went to work for the Queen Bee who enhanced them both. She grew close to Jack, and was the one to rescue him when he was believed dead. However, in JLQ#17, she forgot all about Jack, as if she believed him to really be dead. She also switched to yet another costume, this one a horribly kewl-style outfit with a visor. She was one of the few Guardians to survive the slaughter that occurred at the Final Fight for the Global Guardians.

Post and Precognition have begun to activate spontaneously, making it difficult to tell if what he is seeing is then, now, or yet-to-be.

Psychological Restriction- has had trouble keeping straight which time he is currently in.

Contacts: Global Guardians.

History: (according to Tuatara) "I get my name from a reptile of this land-- the sole surviving species of its order! It has three eyes--as I have! What the reptile's third eye is for, we don't know--but mine serves a special purpose! With one eye you can see in two dimensions..there is no depth perception! With two, you see in three dimensions! With my three eyes, I see in four dimensions-- and the fourth dimension is time!"

Tuatara aided Red Tornado against Grax by locating a bomb which was somewhere in the past (over 122,000,000 years ago). He then at some point joined the Global Guardians (and eliminated an ugly picture of a lizard face from his costume). He then met a tragic end during the Final Fight for the Global Guardians, and is now in a coma, awaiting writer's fiat to resurrect him.

Ed. note: I converted the Global Guardians to Marvel from DC Heroes, but backgrounds for all of them were written by Sean MacDonald.
