Dominion Tank Police

"In the year 2010 A.D., the Earth is a very unfriendly place -- the atmosphere is a poisonous bacterial soup, vicious underworld organizations have run of the cities, and the governments are virtually helpless. Leading the attack on society are the sexy but ruthless cat sisters, Annapuna and Unipuma, and their grotesque half-cyborg leader, Buaku. The last line of defense against utter chaos is Newport City's Tank Police: a team of trigger-happy police officers with an affinity for demolition and disaster...."

Dominion: Tank Police is a comedy/action miniseries based on the manga of the same name, by Masamune Shirow. The story is set in the future, around mid 21st century, and half of the globe is covered with a toxic bacterial cloud that ensures that everyone has to wear protective masks while outside. The Tank Police Deterrent Squad is a heavily armed branch of the poilce that deals in some rather brutal tactics to keep the peace. The main character of the show is Leona Osaki, newly-transferred into the Tank Police, and much of the story deals with her as she adjusts to her new unit's rather extreme ways. She doesn't have much time to adjust as the Tank Police are called upon to foil the exploits of the android super-criminal Buaku and his gang of thugs, whose numbers includes the beautiful and extremely-lethal cat twins, Anapuma and Unipuma.

Dominion consists of four acts, which you can see separately or (as I did) in two parts: Part one (Acts 1 and 2) involves the Tank Police trying to prevent Buaku and his gang from stealing strange urine samples from an equally-strange hospital. Part two (Acts 3 and 4) concentrates more on Buaku and his origin as he tries to steal a mysterious painting worth 900 billion dollars (boy, inflation's a killer..!).
