Here is a storyline from the comics that I went through and wrote up in adventure format. I think it would work well with a small group of PC's, if not using the pregenerated Marvel heroes.

Please give me some constructive criticism on it. Ask if you need the stats for any of the characters involved and I will post them. I did this in one night so let me know if I missed giving some information, or if you have any questions at all. Enjoy!

THE SERPENT CROWN AFFAIR

A Marvel Super Heroes RPG Adventure

By Ty R. States

Roll Call: the Thing, Stingray, Triton, Scarlet Witch.
NPC's: Mr. Fantastic, the Serpent Society, Agatha Harkness.
Source: Marvel Two-In-One #64-66

Chapter 1: From the Depths

Summary: The Fantastic Four are asked to examine a man who has been transformed into an amphibian. The Thing is then dispatched to take Stingray and his patient to meet Triton of the Inhumans so the man can be examined by them. They are then attacked by the Serpent Society.
Starting: Four Freedoms Plaza

The F.F. are paid a late night visit by Walter Newell (Stingray) of the Pacifica Institute of Oceanography. With him is Dr. Henry Croft. Newell says that Prince Namor referred him to Dr. Richards.

Newell shows Reed that Henry has been transformed against his will into an amphibian. His skin is now green and scaly. He now can breathe both water and air. Croft's story begins a few years ago aboard a commercial flight to Miami a few years ago. The plane was highjacked and taken to a small island fortress called Hydrobase (Sub-Mariner #61).

The insane, misguided ecologist named Dr. Hydro was responsible for the abduction. He believed that mankinds only salvation lay in a mass return to the sea. Hydro put everyone into a chamber and began pumping in a strange greenish gas. They were all transformed into scaly green skinned amphibians like Hydro himself. The Sub-Mariner defeated him, but was unable to restore us.

Newell says as Stingray he met Namor and learned about the Hydromen. What struck me was the resemblance between Dr. Croft's skin and the Inhuman Triton.

Richards runs some tests on Dr. Croft and determines that the Inhumans' Terrigen Mist was behind all this. He contacted the Inhumans and they didn't believe anyone else could have used the Mist, it only exists with them. Reed sends the Thing to fly Croft and Newell halfway to meet Triton off the coast of California, so the Inhumans can examine him as well.

After passing San Francisco and heading out over the Pacific Ocean, Newell spots an oil rig. This looks suspicious because he knows there are no oil deposits here. Ben can land the Pogo Plane in the water so the two of them, with Newell as Stingray, can take a closer look. Croft stays aboard the plane.

Upon reaching the rig, workers on the deck say no unauthorized personnel are permitted aboard. Before any real debate can begin, the 100-foot structure begins to quake and a huge underwater explosion rocks the derrick. The explosion has ruptured one of the support columns and the whole rig is starting to lean.

The Thing can hold the leaning rig upright by making a Yellow strength feat roll, until he can find something to brace it in his place. Underwater, the explosion has created a crevice that two of the rigs support columns are sliding into. Before Stingray can do anything, a harpoon whizzes past him. A crew of four scuba divers attack on an aqua sled. A second sled then comes in from behind with two more divers aboard.

After Stingray finishes with the divers, he is pearl harbored by members of the Serpent Society. Anaconda, Black Mamba, Death Adder and Sidewinder should be able to capture the sub-sea hero.

Once the danger has passed, when any of the heroes confront the workers they attack, shouting "we got our orders." This will probably be the Thing on the rig who has to deal with the normal humans attacking him. He's then interrupted by the body of Stingray shooting out of the water and landing on the rig. A small submarine then surfaces. The Serpent Society exit the vessel.

Chapter 2: Serpents from the Sea

Summary: The Thing briefly battles the Serpent Society, but Stingray is unconscious is held hostage. After Grimm escapes a trap on the rig, the Society gets away with the Serpent Crown, despite Triton's aiding the heroes.
Starting: aboard an oil rig off the coast of California.

While the Thing converses with the Serpent Society on the submarine's deck, the crew of the oil rig begin to abandon ship. Stingray is unconscious, and does not respond to the Thing's efforts to revive him. Anaconda tries to sneak up on the Thing while he is checking on Stingray. Otherwise, she meets him head on. While the Thing is engaged with Anaconda, the other Society members reach Stingray and call for Grimm's attention. Death Adder is ready to scratch Stingray with his poison tipped claws unless the Thing gives up.

The villains chain Grimm to one of the support structures. They then tell him that Stingray is attached to the chains on the other side, so if the Thing pulls to break his bonds he will rip Stingray's arms off. Sidewinder says, "Come my fellow serpents. We must complete our mission before the object of our quest is buried beneath the silt of the shifting sea."

After the Society leaves, the rig begins to slide into the water. It's up to the player to come up with a way to escape before falling into the water and drowning. Stingray's suit will allow him to breathe if they go in the drink, but Grimm will have to hold his breath. If things look bad, Triton can make the save, but give the player the chance to do it themselves.

After saving themselves or being rescues by Triton, the players can fill Triton in on what's happened so far. Stingray is still out, but Grimm heard them say they're searching for something buried beneath the rig. Thing can use a aqualung in the Pogo Plane.

Triton and Thing arrive beneath the waves just after Anaconda pulls the Serpent Crown from beneath the rubble and hands it to Sidewinder. This is the first time that the players know what the Society is after. Even with Triton, an undersea battle against the Society will probably go bad, especially outnumbered 4-2. Stingray can come in late for a save. Sidewinder must escape with the Crown, even if he has to leave the others behind. The sub can drop depth charges behind it to aid in the getaway.

Chapter 3: A Congress of Crowns

Summary: The heroes meet in D.C. to look for the Crown. Sidewinder has since given it to the man who hired him to find it.
Starting: afloat in the Pacific Ocean.

Triton can now take Dr. Croft back to the Great Refuge for tests. If it was the Terrigen Mist that did this to him, then the Inhumans deadliest secret has fallen into the wrong hands. Croft can tell Thing and Stingray that the villains ship flew inland.

If Grimm calls to F.F. headquarters for help from Reed on tracking the Crown, Agatha Harkness answers the call. Reed is at a manufacturer's meeting, and Johnny and Sue are out with Franklin. If he tells Agatha what happened, she can tell Grimm that the Crown is an artifact of precataclysmic Lemuria that enslaves one's mind while granting great psychic powers. Harkness says she will contact the Scarlet Witch and get back to you later.

Harkness sends her spirit to search for Wanda. The Witch sees Agatha's face and is told to help search for the Crown. Wanda once held the Crown and might be able to sense it. Agatha can help focus her thoughts to search for the Crown's whereabouts. Harkness will channel her MN rank magical detection abilities to help Wanda search for the Crown. She sees a vision of the Washington Monument. Agatha then sends a mental message to Ben, telling him to go the nation's capital and that the Scarlet Witch will meet you there.

Upon arriving in D.C., Ben and Stingray notice nobody is about the town and come upon a group of demonstrators that have been frozen like statues. The Witch is waiting for them at the monument, and says the whole town has fallen under the spell of the crown.

Wanda can sense the Crown and it leads the group to the Capitol Building. When they come upon the room it's in, they see a man standing at a podium with the Serpent Crown on his head. He says, "Welcome to the first Congress of the Crowns, soon to be the ruling body of this Earth and a multitude of others. I am Hugh Jones, high apostle of the serpent lord Set."

You see ethereal manifestations of every being who has ever worn one of the two serpent crowns that Jones now possesses. Among the phantoms are the Sub-Mariner, Viper, Warlord Krang, and the Living Laser. There are 13 in all. Jones says how he has both crowns and will join them together for total power over all. He has blanked the minds of everyone in the city. You three will be his personal thralls.

The trio are attacked by the ethereal creatures. They seem to be able to take any amount of punishment and keep coming back. Wanda can try to confront Jones herself, in a mental/mystical dual. If a psychic battle is begun between these two, Wanda can feel her astral self sucked into a netherworld of endless dimensions.

Once the other heroes eventually stop the ethereal Crown bearers, they see Wanda looking like she's losing the battle with Jones. Ben can try to pull the Crown off Jones' head, which will help Wanda resist being taken over by Set. Let the players try whatever they can come up with to combat Jones and the Crown.
