If Marvel had a Crisis

Well, the time crunch would be caused by one (or all) of the surviving Elders Of The Universe, who, realizing that they can't kick Galactus' ass, decide to end the universe by ripping holes in time. They start at the beginning and at the end, and it works backwards like a transverse wave, with "patches'" of time falling out of sync. This would erase embarassing characters by wiping out the day they were born, or whatever, and at the end all the remaining heroes & villains stand to fight the Elders. Unfortunately, Galactus was erased fairly quickly on. The heroes must find a way to restore Galactus, as, without him present, the universe is starting to completely collapse.

Ideally, it would begin with something like the Avengers recieving a distress call from the Guardians Of The Galaxy which ends abruptly... and then the Avengers forget who the distress call was from. Silver Surfer is flying in space when, out of nowhere, he turns back into Norrin Radd, and awakens in his bed on Zenn-La. Elsewhere, all of Galactus' former heralds lose all their powers, and planets appear out of "nowhere" in the universe. (Since Galactus is gone now, everything he has done has reset.

Go from there. I could see some serious goofiness reset here. Some characters I would attempt to eliminate, or at least revamp:
Luke Cage. God, what a stereotype!
Most of the Midnight Sons.
A lot of the late seventies-early eighties villains that survived Scourge.

Note: This is just a stream-of-consciousness story sketch to be later fleshed out (with all notes to myself intact). I'm satisfied enough with the whole thing to present it as-is, and I think it fits the requirements of this postfest (does it?). It's intended for my Avengers game but any big group will do, I suppose. And, yes, I did blatantly rip off Crisis on Infinite Earths for this, but I think it's been sufficiently "Marvelized".

"Crisis on Negative Earths"

Annihilus tears a hole into a divergent-time parallel Earth dimension allowing the anti-matter of the Negative Zone to bleed into the other dimension, destroying it. Using the cosmic control rod (in addition to other machines) he absorbs the energy released by the destruction. This process continues until only about SEVEN alternate timelines exist and Annihilus has reached the power of a GOD!!! (Almost as powerful as Thanos, heh heh).

By then the Avengers (and Reed) will have become aware that the Big A is coming to destroy the "Prime Earth" dimension and should take steps to stop him. Kang actually comes to their aid when he realizes that NO divergent Kangs remain! Only Kang, Rama-Tut, and Immortus remain. The Scarlet Centurion bites the dust.

Cut to: The Time Variance Authority. Director Mobius contacts Reed Richards to tell him that his record keepers (the endless rows of faceless desk jockeys) have been DISAPPEARING at an alarming rate! Faster, even, than they multiply (see Simonson's FF).

A big dilemma- for Annihilus to be defeated all divergent-timeline creating time travel must cease! Each newly created divergent timeline is just another one Annihilus can "absorb". The spread of the Negative zone must stop so the remaining timelines can be urged to ban or otherwise stop ANY time travel. This will be no easy undertaking!

By the way- this was all made possible by the destruction of the Kree Empire with the Nega-Bomb. Being that it was linked (somehow) to the Negative Zone caused all kinds of interesting havoc there, not the least of which was the weakening of the dimensional fabric between the N-Zone and a parallel Earth.

And from this point on Annihilus will be there to "feed" on every divergent timeline created. This means almost no stupid time travelling from here on out. This also means that Annihilus is now a threat to be Multiversally feared!

(note: make use of that "parallel-time device" from the "Lady Liberators" Avengers story)
