F- UN (100)Powers: Fire Generation and Control
Brimstone is a major demon in the service of the being who calls himself "Saten". As a Fire Demon, he has UN (100) ability to generate and control flames.
Body Armor: RM protection from physical and energy attacks.
Invulnerablities: As a Fire Demon, Brimstone has CL. 1000 resistance to flames and heat of any kind. He's also invulnerable to Toxins, Disease, Ageing and Corosives.
Teleportation: Brimstone can teleport to a location either in an impressive burst of flame or a quiet puff of smoke with RM range and ability. He may teleport between planes of existance with a Yellow FEAT roll.
Enhancment: Brimstone has used this power to create more powerful minions. When he enhances someone, he raises their Fighting, Agility, Strength and Endurance by +2CS, and extends to them the use of his AM Psyche for purposes of attack or resisting mental domination. The enhanced individual also gains EX (20) Fire Generation and Control and sometimes one random power at RM (30) ability. He may only enhance as many beings on any one plane of existance as his Psyche allows (thus he can have 50 enhanced individuals on any one plane of existance at any time.) and can rescind his powers at any time. He is always aware of what his minions see and do.
Minions : The bulk of Brimstone's minions are run-of-the-mill demons who turned to his banner in hopes of rapid advancement under a new king. They are usually horned and pale skinned in appearance, but may be of any breed. Listed below are merely the most common type of minion at his disposal. If he expects trouble, he may have used his Enhancement power to create a couple of uber-minions to back him up. It is possible that he can excide his usual limitations by enhanceing willing mortals.
Body Armor: TY resistance to physical and energy attacks.
Weapons: As they are basically soldiers, most of Infernos minions carry a weapon of some kind. These weapons are usualy standard medieval types, but with his newfound interest in Earth (a place "Satan" cannot go) he may start equiping them with more exotic weaponry.
Fire Generation and Control: EX (20)
Limitations: Brimstone is the creation of "Satan" and thus, only exists as long as "Satan" does. He once acquired enough popular support among the lesser demons that he was able to challenge his creator for dominion over Hell...but as a creation of "Satan" he couldn't destroy his creator without destroying himself. When confronted with this fact he almost faded out of existence. While "Satan" can't control Brimstone, Brimstone is unable to effectively dethrone "Satan"-- which is the only thing Inferno desires more than existence. If confronted with this fact he must make a Yellow Psyche FEAT roll to maintain his cohesion. If he fails, he will lose his solidity and fade into a cloud of flames and burning mist for 1-10 days. After which, he reforms again on the planes of Hell.
Talents: Leadership, Military Tactics, Politics, Demonology.
Contacts: Brimstone once tried to unseat "Satan" as the major power in hell. Doubtless he has many contacts in the infernal underworld. Also, as a greater demon he may also have cultists and wizards that serve him.
History: The secrets of Brimstone's creation are lost in the shadows of the past. Doubtless he was created by "Satan" soon after his banishment to Hell, and he served his creator as a general of his armies. Over time, Brimstone began to realize just how tenuous his creator's grip over hell was, and he began to quietly acquire support for a coup against him. The insurrection was discovered and Brimstone had to commit his forces to battle sooner than he'd have liked, thus resulting in his defeat by the barest of margins. Fleeing Hell for a time, Brimstone decided to try recruiting minions on Earth as the devil had before.
Satan : "He's an ambitious sort -- tried to oust me, but he lacked sufficient support among the demons to do more than start an unsuccessful insurrection. That's why he's on Earth now. He's decided to recruit his followers from the living. Even I have to admit mortals are more proficient at warfare than we of the afterlife."
While recruiting two thugs who were about to be judged by Matthew Dunsinane (Nicholas Felitta and Elmore Sheeny) he offered Dunsinane the chance to switch allegiances to him, but Dunsinane refused, saying...
Matthew Dunsinane : "Satan toppled?! This must not come to pass! Without the lord of hell's power to sustain me -- I cannot remain on Earth!"
Brimstone defeats Dunsinane and spirits off his new minions, leaving Dunsinane to journey to hell to find out who Brimstone is. "Satan" increases Dunsinane's powers temporarily so he may stand a chance against Brimstone, and sends along Lady Sara Braddock to aid him. The next time he meets Brimstone, Dunsinane and Braddock defeat Brimstones new minions by using holy water to break their connection to Brimstone. After dispatching the two minions, Brimstone himself confronts Dunsinane and defeats him easily in a physical battle, gloating...
Brimstone : "I see Satan has increased your powers, Ghost! But they are as nothing to my own! You could have been my second in command! - I had that much respect for you! What a pity that now I must destroy you! As I was created by the hand of Satan -- so my hand shall end your life and his!"
Then the Grim Ghost confronts Brimstone with the fact that, as Satan's creation...he cannot destroy the Lord of Hell without destroying himself as well. Brimstone cries out and collapses, then dissolves away.
Matthew Dunsinane : "It must be terrible indeed to crave one thing so very much...that when you learn it is beyond your grasp for all time -- you lose all other desires -- even the desire to...exist!"
I liked Brimstone as a kid (he looked like the Cyclops from "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad") and I'd rather not have his tale end there. I've decided that he fled back to Hell and began to make new plans to usurp power. Perhaps if he were to capture or imprison his creator instead of killing him, he could achieve his goals yet continue to exist?
Description: Brimstone usually manifests as a massive being with a fiery red, semi-carapace hide, a single horn and one glaring red eye. As a Fire Demon he is usually wreathed in flames and the stink of brimstone fills the air around him. (If his statistics seem a little light for a major demonic entity, it's because of the relatively low power levels of most of the Atlas characters. Beings in the Atlas universe seem to be more restrained than those of the Marvel or DC universe.)
Personality: Brimstone is a driven, power-hungry entity with a desire to rule that outstrips all other considerations. He's far from stupid, but he has a habit of snatching for the brass ring before his forces are properly deployed. Still, he makes good use of his resources and always looks to the next challenge instead of dwelling on past defeates.
