Doctor Who has also been screened in the U.K. on six non-terrestrial channels:
Super Channel:- January 1987 to December 1988
BSB Galaxy:- April 1989 to November 1989
UKTV Gold:- November 1992 to February 2007
BBC Four:- occasional screenings of individual episodes/stories from November 2004
UKTV Drama:- January to October 2008
Sci-Fi:- August Bank Holiday weekend 2008

A measure of how low the BBC rate the original Doctor Who can be seen in how highly the Welsh series is regarded. The first Welsh series was re-run three times each on BBC Three and UKTV Gold (part-owned by the BBC) in the twelve months after its initial run on BBC One. Since 2007, the entire Welsh series canon has been re-run constantly in peak viewing slots on both non-terrestrial channels.
Before its takeover by the BBC and Flextech at the end of October 1997, what was then UK Gold screened one episode of the original series every weekday with an omnibus edition at the weekend. After the takeover, screenings of original stories were limited to early morning weekend slots, when only early-risers, insomniacs and really dedicated fans were likely to be watching, before being dropped altogether early in 2007. A move to sister channel UKTV Drama a year later came to an end with UKTV's wholesale re-organisation of their network, UKTV Drama becoming Alibi, a channel devoted to crime drama. Thus, whilst the Welsh series now enjoys daily screenings on UKTV's Watch channel, the original languishes in TV limbo.
