Dig Information Sheet - New Prices - EFFECTIVE 1/1/00
A note about these guidelines - No one likes rules BUT after doing these digs for several years we have learned that we have to have rules to keep the landowners and other diggers happy. The digs are for your pleasure and we want you to enjoy your self to the MAX! Most of these guidelines were due to problems we incurred during past digs and are an attempt to correct them. One final note about the cost. These digs are designed to make money, no one is hiding that fact. Please read these rules and be sure you understand all the cost involved so that we will not have a misunderstanding. If the digs are profitable we will continue trying to lease ranches and bring you the opportunity to dig exciting new places for years to come! Have a great time and we hope you find your artifact of a lifetime!
1. Call in and sign up for a dig as late as Thurs. evening 8 PM before the dig (local digs - Kerrville area; Out of Kerrville area Wednesday 8 PM), do not send any money unless we ask for it in advance. If I am not here I will have the recorder on.
If enough diggers have not signed up by deadline to make the dig financially feasible I will call the dig off. When signing up for digs always leave a call back number or E-mail so that you can be notified in case of a cancellation. We will contact you the same way you signed up (phone or E-mail). If you want to dig and are willing to pay our minimum fee for a day then we will consider it. Private digs are sometime available (according to the landowners.)
2. It is your responsibility to leave me a working number (that someone will answer or has a recorder on it) that you can be reached in case I have to cancel a dig. I am not responsible if you do not! E-mail sign ups will be returned the same way. Give me a telephone number if it is your work E-mail and you will not be there.
3. If you cannot make it after signing up then I will be forced to charged a fee. You will be billed half price for a no show (Minimum $25). Not transferable or refundable etc. If it is not paid before the next dig you attend, then it will be assessed at the time you show up and pay for the next dig you attend. I WILL GIVE ONE “FREE” NO SHOW PER YEAR FOR EMERGENCY USE. If you call to cancel before the deadline there will be no fee assessed. A message on the recorder is OK or E-mail BUT it must be received prior to the deadline. Remember, I leave after the deadline to go to the digs and there will be no one here to take your call.
This way I will be assured to get enough cash to pay for my expenses if I have a lot of no shows, at the same time you can support what we am doing so we can search for more sites and continue having a great time!
4. Mandatory Documentation $20 Deposit Required On The Larger Digs (You will be notified in advance)- Too many people are driving off not having their artifacts photographed. We are the Texas Amateur Archeological Association, not the Potholer’s of America. Every artifact BROKEN or NOT needs to come across my table before you leave! We are working to ID Texas point types and need to see everything found PLUS, I use the photos to advertise the digs. Quit digging in time to have your artifacts photographed. They are to be brought to the TAAA table before leaving, do not ask me to follow you to your vehicle.
When you sign up for a dig bring a $20 bill for a deposit and I will return it when you have your artifacts photographed. You can use it for gas money on the way home!
Signing up for a dig constitutes that you have read, understand and agree to these guidelines.
5. Everyone attending a TAAA sponsored dig must be a member of the TAAA.
6. All artifacts (broken or whole) must be taken to the TAAA table to be inspected and documented. We want to see ALL of what you find.
7. On controlled digs we number 5 foot holes, squared off. You will draw for your square. Friends and family may share squares. Each paying digger can draw one square. No buying squares in advance allowed. Occasionally we will have a “dig anywhere” dig. There may be a cover up fee imposed on these digs, inquire in advance. You will restricted to certain areas. Be sure you know where you may or may not dig BEFORE digging!
8. Most hand digs are $50.00 per day with a $5.00 per hole cover up fee (if we have an uncontrolled dig or no squares then there will be a $10 back fee assessed. All holes must be completely dug before drawing another. Anyone wanting to dig for a half day can do so. The price is $40 per half day ( plus a $5.00 backhoe fee on uncontrolled digs). Daylight to 12 PM is one half day and 12 PM to dark or 6 PM on Sunday is one half day. Diggers starting in the morning must declare a full days dig or ½ day dig at the time and pay accordingly. NO REFUNDS if you decide not to stay for the afternoon, or rain etc. Afternoon diggers are allowed into the site at 12 PM, early arrivals must pay the full day fee. All fee subject to change without notice.
9. TAAA members children and grandchildren (any age after 1 year old - if you want to know why just ask) will be allowed at one half price ($20 each for ½ day or $25 for a whole day) whether they dig or not. If raking children pay full price. You are responsible to keep your child in your hole and not let them disturb other diggers. All diggers and children are required to stay at the site unless we have a surface hunt agreement.
10. Any adult has to pay the $50 dig fee, whether they dig or not. You are allowed a visitor while digging but anyone staying over 30 minutes will be charged a dig fee. Visitors may not surface hunt while visiting. We allow visitors for family members to bring meals water etc.

Spaces are limited.
