The Honu, (turtle), has many ties to Hawaiian culture including that of family aumakua,(deity/protector). Currently, the Hawaiian Sea Turtle has been moved from the endangered species list to that of threatened species. Hawaii law strictly prohibits the hunting of these creatures with severe penalties for perpetrators.
