Graphs Instructions

"Every quilt should have a reason

behind it...that's where the mana (spiritual power) comes

in,"

On the following pages are graphs for Hawaiian quilt squares. To crochet these please note: graphs measure  70x70 squares or there abouts so the measurements here are for 70x70.

Done up in yarn-Filet=worsted weight with #H steel crochet hook (2dc filled square and  ch 2 open square)= 49"x49"

2color sc-done as solid piece-in single crochet. using two colors, one for background, one for design.

chain 71, sc in 2nd st from hook; 70 sc's total counting turning ch-1 as 1st sc. ch 1, turn follow directions of graph, each block is one sc, color changes as indicated. measures=21"x21" done in worsted weight  with #H steel crochet hook.

Filet style-chain 212, dc in 5th st from hook, *ch 2, skip 2 st, dc in next st; repeat from* across (will have 70 blocks of ch-2 sp); ch 5 turn dc in top of next dc, from here open spaces are ch 2, dc in next dc; closed spaces are 2 dc in ch-2 sp, dc in next dc.

Thread-Done same as done for Yarn Filet: using #10 bedspread weight crochet thread and #9 steel crochet hook=27"x27"

There are 21 patterns in this series only the graphs are provided past this page. Color choices are yours; I've done each up in black and white; or shades of gray where necessary for detail.

For reasons of printability I have used this size. If you want larger squares use mulitples of each square to enlarge. I suggest you do this on graph paper or on a graph program like Pattern Maker.

So if you need these instructions please get them now, by copy and paste.(highlight test then on top of browser next to file is edit- under edit is copy; now open notepad or other word processer you have and there under edit click paste. this will move the instructions to your word processer. Be sure to name and save this file where you can find it later.)

A short understanding  or history, of each design is provided by Vidalark, my daughter, who's education in the history of Hawaii is greater than mine. I hope you enjoy these patterns which have been made by quilters in various forms for several generations now. Passed from mother to daughter, neighbor to neighbor, each interpertation slightly different than the last due to life experiences and personal beliefs.

Here are the patterns available:
