2001 could be the last year for "Ironman" Europe. The race may still be held as a long course race in 2002 but will not be a WTC race and will have no Ironman Hawaii slots.

Ironman France is the newest race to join the Ironman family in 2002. The race will be held in Marseilles.

Replacing Ironman California for 2002 will be the new Ironman Utah. The race will be held on June8 in Provo.

Ironman legend Scott Molina will be competing in the 5430 triathlon.

Duathlon great Kenny Souza has been suspended for 3 years, retro-active to 1998, by USA Triathlon for racing without a current license. Along with Souza 6 other athletes were found to be racing sanctioned events without a current license including Alec Rukosuev and 1999 duathlete of the year Paul Thomas.

Simon and Lisa Lessing are the proud parents of a baby girl, Amelie, born June 5th.

Its official! Wisconsin is home to the newest WTC Ironman event. The new Ironman event will take place September 15, 2002 and will have 80 slots for the 2003 Ironman Hawaii.

Dave Scott will once again be returning to the lava fields! Scott, 47, will be stirring things up this year at Ironman Hawaii. Scotts appearance will be sure to cause a lot of the top men to be looking over their shoulder.

The Ironman California mens pro field is starting to stack up. Along with defending champion Chris Legh, Tony DeBoom and Chuckie "V" Veylupek, Craig Walton has now thrown his hat into the ring. Waltons fast swim/bike combo could stir up the pot and change some gameplans.

First it was Ironman Hawaii and now The Los Angles Triathlon will also make a change in its course. With the closure of Angels Flight, T2 and the finish line will be moved. This move will put T2 and the finish closer to each other making it easier on the athletes and spectators.

The 2001 Powerman Emmental has been canceled. The race organization hopes to return the race for the 2003 season as the Long Course World Championships.

USAT and United Airlines have partnered up for free bike passes. Within the next few mounths USAT will be sending all members 2 free bike vouchers to be used on any United flight. These passes can be used regardless of where you purchase your ticket.

The 2001 Hawaii Ironman course, pending permits, will have a new look. Changes are in the works for both the run and bike courses. The new route is intended to make the course more spectator friendly and was prompted by the closing of the Kona Surf Resort. The famed Energy Lab and Ali Drive will still be included in the new route.

The American Irontour has returned. This year it will be an all amatuer 3 person team event with 4 races in 3 days. the 4 races make up the Ironman distance. The pro feild for the 2001 Wildflower Long Course Triathlon is stacking up. On the womens side Michelle Deasy, Heather Fuhr, Jeanne Anne Krizman, and Barb Lindquist will be towing the line. On the mens side Wes Hobson, Marc Lees, Chris Legh, Chris McCormack, Mike Pigg, Peter Reid, Craig Walton, and Cameron Widoff will be battling it out for the top spot. Rumor has it that Jurgen Zack, although not a confirmed starter, is in San Diego training hard to attempt to break the 4 hour barrier.

William "Bobo" Anderson was fined and given a 1 year suspension by USATriathlon. It was learned at Ironman Florida that Anderson had been competing as a pro without a valid USATriathlon "Elite" Membership.

On Febuary 3 Jan Rehula was seriosly injured in a bike accident during a training ride. The accident was caused by his seat post breaking. Rehula was unconsious when he was found by other cyclists. He had lost nearly 2 pints of blood. He is recovering in a hospital in Australia (where the accident occured).
