Though she had good roles in films like 'Naaraz', 'Takkar and 'English Babu Desi Mem, they did not do well. To credit Sonali though, one hasn't seen her in senseless roles ever. She's proved her acting skills with Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan. Her best performances to date have been in 'English Babu Desi Mem', 'Duplicate', 'Sarfarosh' and 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'; as a street smart dancer, a club dancer, a lively girl and an exceptionally shy girl.

In real life, Sonali is a typical family person with her middle-class values intact. She lives with her parents and sister Gandhali in Mumbai. Sonali has kept away from major scandals in all the five years she's been in the industry. Though Sonali is a tough cookie where her profession is concerned and is clear sighted about her goals, her character in real life is quite similar to the one she played in 'Sarfarosh'.
