This page is not written in response to any
one person or group. It is not written out of hubris or in an
attempt to antagonize any feminist Dianic Wiccans (or similar
path-followers).
What this page is, is an exercise in self
growth. It is where my path has lead me. It is a major aspect
of my own personal quest.
Even though I have been Pagan now for over 20 years, it has
only been in the past few years that I have discovered Cernunnos. I love my
Goddess whom I worship in the guise of Isis, but I always felt something was
missing. That something is the Male side of Deity.
To most pagans and Wiccans, the pentagram best represents
the the Craft, both in a religious as well as from a Craft standpoint. But to
me the symbol is that of the Yin-Yang. Opposites that create a whole: male-female,
hot-cold, positive-negative. And as the wheel turns, each assumes attributes
of the other in equal parts and measure.
It is an sad but understandable reaction to the dominant male-only
religions, that many pagans belittle the male deity's part in the Multiverse.
This has been taken to such extremes as to remove all reference to him and give
the female goddess all attributes. This is folly. That is only repeating the
mistakes of Christianity and Islam in the other extreme. Balance is the key.
To be a pagan or wiccan male today is to do more than simply
adopt a new religion or learn a system of magick. It must be accompanied by
a refutation of many historically learned thought processes. It must include
a denial of sexism and domestic violence. How can one worship the goddess then
turn around and beat your wife or your girlfriend, the personification of the
goddess in your life - just as you personify the god. Answer: You can not! No
matter how one tries to rationalize the actions they speak for themselves.
