Bird's life:-

Bird species:- |
For budding birder :- |
|
In the Ulu Langat area, there is a
country road that penetrates deep into the foot of the Main Range.
Along this road, there are numerous turn off to many off road
recreation spots. Away from the urban crowd and a back to nature
scene. A couple of these popular destinations are now formalized and upgraded as official recreational parks. Congkat is the biggest. The park was built along the left bank of the river sharing the same name. A proper road, chalets, picnic, camping and rest areas erected. For birders, the forest that fringes the road remains intact. Birds from Babblers to White crowned Hornbill emerged from these edges. Residents worth a special mentioning are the Oriental dwarf Kingfisher and the Dusky broadbill. |

The road within the Park is fairly
straight. From the gate to the end, it is approximately 1.5 kilometer long
. I would divide the scenario within the park as 3 segments. Each with its
own ambience. The beginning, is a river with rapids and campsites, on the right, canteen, toilets and low end chalets on the left. This picture here is what I would consider the inner part, section 2. Here are community halls, more campsites and high end bungalows. The boundary on the left is the river, a narrow strip of level ground for the hall on the right. |

|
The last segment is where the paved roads ends. Here there is a "football"
size field.
Then this is the vicinity where trekkers can find trails leading out of the park. A carpeted lawn slopes down the ravine at the opening part of the road into the Park |
|
|
|
A bridge - the road in the park now
runs one the right bank after the bridge. On the left bank forested area, inaccessible while right where the road runs, a narrow strip of level ground and then followed by a gentle slope The bridge separates my so-called segment 1 from 2 |

Birds are exceptionally active in the
morning. After 10.30 am, the activities slow down. Perhaps, due to the fact that this place is the forest edge, throughout the day, there will be the odd birds flying around. Area of the 1st campsite with the morning rays penetrating the canopy |

A scene showing the size of stream that
flows here. I have found that the best birding area is at the internal open car park. This is a supplementary parking area after the main gate. If you have the energy to trek, opposite this car park, there is a trail that leads steeply up a slope. A small stream is the main focus of the Park. Going through the rapid most of the way while within the Park.

The core of the Congkat Park. - This spot is birding area No. 2. Forested edge starts from this point. |
