The state of Selangor has on its northern shorelines, over 100 kilometers of mudflats. Obviously, many spots are favorites to the local and migrating birds. The ash pond in Kapar is now designated as a conservation sites and limited to approved visitors. Where can causal and impromptu birders go? Find a spot, where one can penetrate the mangrove forest. No sign of human presence? Among the many estuaries, Tanjong Tengkorak is one such point. A fishing village, fairly deep inland and the mudflats undisturded.

This is the view from the shed next the restaurant. Sheltered from the heat. Ample supply of refreshment and good food. I take this shed as a natural bird hide.

As usual knowing the local tide is important. The returning fishing boats also attracts varieties of waders. The Egrets and Adjuctants were hanging around the shorelines and mudflats.

The estuary and the Straits of Malacca as horizon..

This is the rickety board walk that takes visitor to the local shrine that protrudes into the estuary and mangrove forest.

There a good chances of seeing forest birds as well catching up on more waders

Looking back inland - the view of the tiny fishing settlement. I do my birding at the forest at a spot just behind where the houses were. At the edge of the settlement was a restaurant. You could have your meals here, by the way, serving very tasty foods in the level of local living cost. The Little Heron may even come beside your table.

Collared Kingfishers would be dashing by giving out that loud unmistakable calls. Overhead the Kites hovered relentessly.

Looking Back at the settlement

Under the boardwalk, Common Sandpipers, their cousins and Egrets will be marching up and down the water lines scavenging for little fish fries.

View of the mudflats below the restaurants. See the silhouette of birds?

Here one more branch of the estuary. The village shed served as bird hide, eatery as well a perfect sanctuary for city folks and birders.
