The Space Swimmers
ON
ONE MAN RESTS THE FATE OF THE WORLD --- Six years ago, Johnny Joya led the
sea-born Cadets of the Space Academy back to the sea. He knew that the sea
and land-born must separate or clash. When the Cadets refused to return to
the Land, the Sea-People were declared outlaws . hunted and killed like animals
in a one-sided war without quarter. --- Now one of the hunters offers the
Sea-People safety - but at a price: Johnny Joya must lead his people after
the Space Swimmers, along the golden roads between the stars, but not for
themselves - for the Land. --- The fuse is lit, will Land and Sea smash in
a final explosion or merge into a future undreamed of by both ?

Mankind
on the Run (1956)/ On the Run(1979)
Kil
and Ellen Bruner were Class-A citizens, labelled as privileged and stable
by the Key that every man, woman and child wore in the well-ordered world
created after the Lucky War. Then Ellen vanished, and suddenly all Kil's privilege
isn't enough to bring her back to him. The layers of intrigue he is able
to unwrap show him only the beginning of a great plot against established
society - a plot that somehow involves Ellen. For the first time he feels
doors closing around him, hears the official silence of the World Police,
feels the great weight of authority's disapproval, and learns what it means
to be a man alone. His desperate search for his wife will cost him everything
he thought he believed in as he digs ever deeper into the ugly reality behind
the façade of his world's peace and security, and finds himself at
last.

it might be something deadly to his fellow soldiers -- and to Earth. Somehow
Cal means to seek out whatever it is that his mind is resisting ...

None But
Man (1967)
The
Frontier Rebellion has long been won, thanks in part to the efforts of Culihan
O'Rourke, the best hijacker the Rebels ever had. When he is greeted upon his
return to Earth with beatings, torture, and interrogation, Cully learns the
hard way of the ultimatum issued to Earth by the Moldaug: evacuate the Frontier
or be destroyed.
Wolfling
(1969)
A
hundred years in our future, the first expedition from Earth reaches Alpha
Centauri only to discover a vast human empire, long-established and sternly
ruled by the aristocratic High-born. In a stroke Earth becomes merely another
primitive outpost, its people dubbed ‘wolflings’ by the rulers of the Throne
World. Painstakingly chosen and meticulously trained, Jim Keil was sent merely
to observe conditions on the Throne World. The High-born would consider him
no more than a diversion. . . until Keil cast away his orders from Earth and
proved a Wolfling indeed.
Hour of the Horde (1970)
Annihilating
everything before it, a horde of monstrous space travellers were advancing
through the stars. And Earth lay in their route. To defend their home planets,
the worlds that lay in the path of the monsters created a super defense force,
asking each planet to contribute one especially talented warrior to help turn
the invaders away. Miles Vander was Earth's man, but when he arrived at the
rendezvous point he found that he was included in the special task force
of the less civilized defenders. But in the contest of advanced nuclear weaponry
and computer strategy, it turned out to be Vander's group that had the special
independent qualities and the raw courage to meet the challenge the most
effectively.
I read
the "Hour of the Horde" many, many years ago. I believe it can boiled
down to one man out-bluffing an entire alien race.
Sleepwalkers World (1971)

Harald, a cosmonaut, attempts to combat the mysterious power that has put
most of the human race into an involuntary sleep.
The Outposter

pritcher mass searched psychic wavelengths for living worlds. If one were
found in time, a saving remnant of the race might achieve a new beginning.
But something of earth, an ancient evil, seemed bent on destroying the mass.
The
R-Master (1973)/ The Last Master (1984)
The
World Economic Council said the world had become Utopia. There should be
no cause for dissatisfaction. But for those who were still restless, there
was the new mind-stimulating drug R-47.Those who took R-47 were engaging in
a sort of lottery whose rare winners would be super-geniuses and whose losers
might be fit only for asylums. Etter Ho, whose brother was one of the
losers, took the drug on the chance that, if he won, he could cure his brother.
But what he became when he emerged from the mainlining was something none
expected. For he became a menace to Utopian order, a danger to those
who knew him, and the only man who might, just possibly, diagnose the real
illnesses of the world.
Alien Art

Gremlins,
Go Home! (1974)with Ben Bova
Several
hundred years ago a band of explorers were marooned on Planet Earth. Alas,
the Little People are not strong on gadgetry, and they have had to while away
the centuries of their youth, living for the day when they could get off
this god-forsken mudball, this most benighted, delolate--and boring!--planetary
slum in the known universe. At last, the time has come. All they need now
is a human--a young one will do--to help them hijack a Shuttle to take them
to where their rescue awaits. And that shouldn't be too hard, for what All-American
boy could resist giving a hand to a friendly leprechaun?
Lifeboat
(1976) with
Harry Harrison
A
saboteur's bomb ripped through the hull of the seemingly indestructible
galactic liner, leaving bare minutes for the survivors of the alien crew
and human cargo to evacuate the ship. Giles Steel Ahsad, Adelman, found himself

crewmen. Only the aliens knew how to pilot the vessel - and they had lost
the will to live.

the creature to its natural home, the colonized planet of Everon. He knew
the planet was barren. And that he'd have to fight to survive. But nothing
had prepared him for the incomprehensible strangeness, the mind-blasting wonder
of the true Masters of Everon.
The Man
From Earth (1983)
How
has this undistinguished race from a backwater spiral arm won for itself
a galaxy? It is not intellect; a few of them are rather bright, not many.
Their machines? Other races possessed better when the humans conquered them.
Not even valor; many were fiercer far than humans, before the humans came.
What power is in them?
Jamie the
Red (1984)
with Roland Green

it's a hoot and a half, just let go and enjoy it!)
