Imperial Moth, Eacles imperialis
The photograph below, of an individual at Camp Rio Vista on 21 August 2003, represents a new Kerr County record and, according to the current USGS map (August 2003),would be the westernmost U.S. record of this species. However, Dr. James K. Adams has collected an Imperial Moth at Brackettville, Kinney County (about three counties southwest of Kerr), and has published the record in the newsletter of the Southern Lepidopterists Society. Thanks to Mike Quinn, Charlie Sassine and Dr. James K. Adams for confirming the identification of this striking moth.
