Bruton Smith's speed palace in Fort Worth has been a jewel and a thorn on the NASCAR circuit. This track is known for it's huge purses and huge wrecks. With only one racing groove any wreck usually becomes a milti-car pile-up. Can you avoid the carnage and make it to the end? Keys to Racing @ Texas Qualifying is Key: The most important part of the weekend will be qualifying (as it is almost everywhere on the Nascar circuit). Here a good Q run will go a long way toward a top five and maybe even a win. Note: There are two laps of Q'ing with two warm up laps to begin the Q session. Up from the back: Let's assume you don't run the perfect qualifying lap or you hit some water sepage in turn two and park the car into the wall. Don't worry-with patience you can move up from the back at this track. Expect a lot of cautions and pit at evry one up to the AI's scheduled stop. This will put you off sequence and allow you to gain valuable track position when the time comes. Aero damage won't kill you: Even though this is a track where aerodynamic's play a big role, a little damage will not limit you significantly. I have come through the field missing fenders and bumpers with my set-up. The Nascar 99 Conversion: The n99 conversion is beautiful. Especially after racing on the charlotte conversion. This conversion has two grooves to race in with the lower line being the preferred line. If you go up the track in the turn, expect to get passed, but don't panic because you can usually fight the other car off, out of the turn. The question is; do you want to fight? Depending on how late in the race you are, probably not. Be patient, get him the next time around. Turn 4: Turn four is a great place to pass. The AI will often push up the track here opening the door for an easy pass. To do this, get a good run through the back stretch. Stay out of trouble: Stuff happens! Try to stay away from it. Don't put your car where it doesn't belong. Pass in traditional places like the tri-oval, the back stretch, or on pit road, where good strategy can get you a win (ask Jeff Gordon!). Expect good battles all over the track at Texas. This is a competitive place where patience is at a premium. |
