Martinsville Speedway

Martinsville is a tight, tough track that will bite you so fast you won't know what happened. You are going to be in a crowd all day so get used to it. Laps are gained and lost in the blink of an eye so watch out (in front and in the mirror) cause were about to have some fun!

Martinsville Tips

The Groove: Martinsville is simple and brutal-get to the bottom of the track throught the corners and hold that line! Remember, the AI is set to pass during braking. You can do the same thing by out braking them through the turns. Drive the car hard off of the corners out toward the wall. If you are passing off the corner, watch for cars moving toward the center of the track. The competition likes to drive out to the wall and then back to the middle. This can get you in trouble, especially if you are trying to pass out of the turn and have built up a head of steam.

Brakes: Get onto the brakes hard going into the corners. Luckily, we don't have to worry about our brakes failing-only our nerves! Hit the brakes while the car is still traveling in a straight line otherwise you may spin the car.

Passing: Passing is accomplished in the typical short track way: get your nose under that of the other guy! Do that and you can usually take the position. But don't let your car move up a lane while doing it or you will get into the side of the AI and you will both spin out. Also, watch out for spinning cars in front of you. I just raced 175 laps and it seemed like I saw 4 or 5 spins right in front of me (not caused by me!).

Watch out for the grass: The grass in the turns should be avoided at all cost's. If not then it might cost you dearly. I don't know how many times it has spun me out but I do know that it has been an awful lot! If you feel your car get into the grass or on the curb there then you need to steer back across the turn to get the car out of the grass. If your car gets hung up in the grass you will spin. It's a good idea to get out of the gas while trying to get out of the gas.

Finesse is the key!: Don't be too rough on your car here or you will end up at the rear of the field. Plain and simple. Finish as many laps as you can and you will be rewarded. Bumping and banging is all part of the game at short tracks but, the driver that can keep his car relatively clean will be the winner.
