The superspeedway in North Hampton, GA is a very fast track now with the new configuration but was also a very fast track with the old configuration. Speeds average 175mph and qualify above 180mph. Remember, this track is symmetrical so your entrance in turns 1 and 3 should be the same. Iknow, I know...easier said than done. The racing here will be very tight. In my league race I spun and ended up at the back of the pack. As I made my way up to the front I realized that the racing here is very competitive. It was the most nerve-racking, exciting race I have ever had (and I finished 3rd). Keys To Atlanta Don't overcook the tires: This is easy to do going into and through the turns. With front and backstretch speeds reaching 195+ you want to get out of the gas a little early to set up for the turn. Make the track as round as possible: At any track you want to do this but especially at a superspeedway. this allows you to hold some of your speed through the turns giving you more straightaway speed. This is done by starting high in the turns and driving down through them and then pushing the car up against the wall through the straights. Pass on the inside: Actually, this track is so wide that you can pass pretty much anywhere through the turns. Your best and safest bet would be to stay on the inside. This is for 2 reasons: 1-it decreases your chances of driving down into a car (easy to do) and 2-The AI cars have a tendency to lose control in the turns and slide out toward the wall. Very rarely do the spin back down. Set up for the turns: This goes along with passing. Through the straightaways you will be tempted to pass on the inside. One caveat: Get back to the outside before the turns. Holding the car at the bottom and keeping speed is almost impossible if you enter the turns low. The likely result will be a premature end to your race. Avoid the apron: Don't let the car get down on the apron too frequently. This is a surefire way to end up into another car or in the wall. Stay positive: If you get shuffeled to the back of the pack don't fret. It's easy, with some confidence, to get back up to the front. Especially if you keep the other keys in mind. |
