The Coca-Cola 600 is the longest race on the NASCAR circuit and CMS is the mecca of the NASCAR world. Chances are all your sponsors will be there and there will be a lot of pressure to run well. The sim track is characterized by high speeds, about 10mph faster than at the real track, close quarters (especially through the double dog legs), and a lot of fun. To me, this is sim racing at its finest. Keys to running at Charlotte Set up-Set the car up for the turns. If you can make it through the turns then that is half the battle won. Get to the point where you feel comfortable riding around the track-this will give you confidence when it comes time to race. Turn 4: Loose v Push-The toughest turn will be turn four. The reason this turn is so tough is because there is a delicate balance between a car that pushes and a car that is bad loose. A car that pushes in my mind and for my money is better than a car that is pushing (at least at this track). It is so easy to lose a car that is loose as you drop out of turn four and enter the double dog legs. Adjust your line-The key to winning this race, and any other on the MACAR circuit is the ability to be able to adjust. Not only your car but also your driving style. A perfect set-up may not be found here but your line can make it perfect. With a set-up that pushes you can easily compensate for the push by entering the turn high, and then drifting the car down the track. Don't get too racey!-These tracks with the double dog legs (Atlanta, Charlotte, Vegas) are great races to watch because they are very exciting. They can be hazardous though for a driver because there is always a temptation to want to pass too many cars at once at the wrong time. There is a right time for every pass. Adjust your line-Once you start passing other cars-get used to it because they come in bunches. Most of the time you will be making multiple passes while trying to hold one car back and trying to pass another. Also, the sims will pass you on the outside thourgh the turns if you drop you speed too much. Be aware and prepared. |
