CHAUTAUQUA COUNTRY HORSEMEN'S ASSOCIATION
20TH ANNUAL SLEIGH RALLY AND
INFORMAL DRIVING COMPETITION
  CHAUTAUQUA INSTITUTION ,  NEW YORK

     SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2001


           We have planned a day full of friendly competition
in the picturesque setting of Chautauqua Institution on
  the shores of Chautauqua Lake. Draft horses, Light horses,
Ponies & Mules put to any type of winter vehicle are
  welcome to participate! In the unlikely event that there is little or no snow,
we would encourage you to bring your
  wagons, buggies or carts. Refreshments and lunch will be available on the grounds.
The Stateline Draft Horse Club
  will be offering sleigh rides through the grounds of the Institution throughout the day.
Spectators are heartily
  welcomed!


Please, if you bring a horse and trailer be sure to enter a class or two,
we only have enough  parking space for our contestants.  Spectator parking
Is ample and across the street!

SCHEDULE Of EVENTS:


 10:30 A.M.        DRAFT HORSE CLASSES: In order to allow members
of the Stateline Draft Horse Club to  
   participate, we have scheduled classes for the draft horses in the morning. The schedule will be as follows:  
    

            I.  Team Draft Horse Hitch - Pleasure Driving        4.  Team Draft Horse Hitch -Obstacle Race
            2.  Single Draft Horse Hitch -Pleasure Driving       5.  Team Draft Horse Hitch -Timed Trotting                 3.  Single Draft Horse Obstacle Race                            6.  Single Draft Horse -Timed Trotting  

           (Ample time will be given between classes to allow for changing  horses around).

  12:00 P.M.   PLEASURE DRIVE THROUGH CHAUTAUQUA INSTITUTION/CURRIER  & IVES
  CLASS

         The Currier & Ives Class will be judged during the pleasure drive, on authenticity, appointments and quality
  of overall turnout both in motion and standing. It Is important to show in  separate groups as noted below in
  order to be more accurately judged for the Currier & Ives Awards.
   The line-up will be as follows:

           7.  Team Draft Horse Hitch      10. Single light Horse Hitch
           8.  Single Draft Horse Hitch      11. Pair Pony Hitch
           9.  Pair Light Horse Hitch         12. Single Pony Hitch
 Beginning with this rally of  2001, Grand Champion, Virginia Myers Memorial Class!

All winners in the individual Currier and Ives Divisons above will compete
for the overall Grand Champion of the
Currier and Ives Drive.
A special Trophy will be given in honor of Virginia for this class each year.

This year's trophy was donated by the Crandall Family of Mayville, NY

  The  awards for the Currier & Ives Class will be announced immediately following the drive.

 1:30 P.M.  PLEASURE CLASSES - WORKING:

      13. Single Light Horse Hitch                16.  Pair Pony Hitch
      14.  Pair Light Horse Hitch                  17.   Youth Pleasure  
      15.  Single Pony Hitch                            ( age 16 and under)

          Entries will be judged on suitability of horse/team to provide a pleasant drive.
To be shown both ways of  
  the ring at a walk and trot (a collected trot, working trot, and trot-on may be called for).
To stand quietly when
  lined up. To be judged 70% on performance, manners and way of going;
20% on condition and fit of harness
  and vehicle; 10% on neatness of attire.

      18. Ride/Drive Class - Open

  TIMED OBSTACLE RACE

     19. Single light Horse Hitch     21. Pair light Horse Hitch  
     20.  Single Pony Hitch           22. Pair Pony Hitch               

        To be driven over a course of five obstacles. Time will begin when the driver crosses the starting
  line, and ends when crossing back over that line. Each obstacle must be completed. Time penalties will be assessed
  for each obstacle which Is missed or disturbed. The driver with the fastest time will be the winner. In case of a tie,
  a drive-off may be necessary.

   PLEASE NOTE:  Horses breaking from a trot to a canter will be disqualified!
    

  TIMED TROTTING RACE

         24.  Single Pony Hitch       26.  Pair Pony Hitch

   * This event will run in a separate area at the same time as the Obstacle Race.
