Paul Wood

Paul Wood is truly one of the gems in the Pickle's crown a man of outstanding quality, capability and true footballing genius not to mention his reputation as one of the worlds most fine, upstanding and handsome players, (you'll be happy to hear though that he's turned down the many modelling and film contracts, just so that his commitment to the Pickles and their fans doesn't slide, Peter Barks is quoted as saying "what a thoroughly nice bloke, I totally look up to this guy and feel so humble in his presence, infact I don't even feel worthy to stand in his shadow.")

So here's a bit of our heroes history. Paul grew up in the beautiful suburb of Croydon, where as a young nipper he regularly kicked a ball around with likes of players Ian Wright, Nigel Martin and Gareth Southgate, at his local club Crystal Palace (Who's many contract offers he has had to turn down to stay where his heart lies, at the Pickles). His first position was in goal as he sought to follow in the famous footsteps of his father, a former Portuguese league player. But Paul soon found that his passion, desire and growing ability meant that being shackled between the sticks was frustrating him. He has now matured into the complete player, who can play just about anywhere on the pitch. But out of his humility at the back is where he feels he belongs, where the rewards aren't great, but there Paul feels he can make up for some of the Pickles weaknesses, by tidying up after the mistakes. Every now and again though, he likes a period further up the pitch. Andy spens has reportedly offered his place to the man he calls Mr Silky, knowing that his abilities could never approach those displayed by Paul.
