Dominoes

Jon flipped the domino around in his fingers.  He watched the colored dots as they turned away and then towards him again.
"This game bores me," Jon stated.
The domino rested between his ring finger and his middle finger.  The six yellow dots on one side visible to him.
"There are other games we could play," Cindy replied with childish enthusiasm.
Jon flung the domino to the table, disrupting the pattern of dominoes that were there.
"No more games.  No more cartoons.  No more of any of it," Jon said in a harsh voice. "I want something more interesting than childish distractions."
Cindy started to pick the dominoes up and put them back in their box.  She held back tears as her brother ignored her.
"I'm sorry if all I have are childish things," Cindy remarked. "We can't all be grown up like you big brother."
"I could be out partying right now.  But instead mom made me baby-sit.  This just isn't fair.  I'm fourteen and I should be able to do what I want."
Jon swiped his arm over the table, knocking the dominoes that Cindy had yet to put away, on to the floor.
"I'm going to watch T.V. brat," Jon said as Cindy got down to clean up the mess.
Jon slouched back in the recliner and turned on the at television set.  Channel 9 news was on at the moment.
"Damn, the news," Jon remarked. "There has to be something good on."
Before Jon could change the channel he froze.  On the television screen were pictures of his friends, the same friends he had wanted to party with that evening.
"...all four are dead," the anchor woman explained. "The driver was apparently drunk.  The car had swerved several times before crashing into the building, according to witnesses.  The ages of the four boys range from fourteen to seventeen..."
Jon turned the television off and returned to the dinning room where Cindy sat crying.  The box of dominoes lay on the table in front of her.
Jon started to gently take the dominoes out of the box and place them on the table.  A sense of fear dominated his movements.
Cindy looked up to him with red eyes.
Jon said nothing as the two of them started to the game.
