Welcome to my tour of Michigan lighthouses. As I further my goal to see as many Michigan and great lakes lighthouses as I can, I will add their pictures along with their history and directions.
I became intrigued with lighthouses, after visiting one or two and finding that these were not only historical structures, but also that some of them, were in disrepair, and were ready to be abandoned. I set out with a book I had purchased, called "Travelers guide 116 Michigan Lighthouses". The author of this book was listed as Penrose, so with its help, I ventured out to see as many as I could. I met Mr. Penrose at an art fair .My wife and I work this fair, along with many other dedicated people every summer in my hometown in southern Michigan. Mr. Penrose was everything I could hope for. I learned from him that the book was actually a collaboration of his whole family. One did the text, one took the pictures, while another drew the maps.they came out with a wonderful guide to Michigan Lighthouses. I also met Mr. Penrose's wife, and look forward to seeing them every July. I hope my site, comes out half as good as his book did. Also,I am in a wheelchair and will try and include how accessable the houses are.
