If Pakistan had not supported and condoned terrorism would have the September 11th attacks happened? To answer this question, we need to take a closer look at the involvement of Pakistani terror groups.

Evidence of implicit Pakistani involvement:

Funding: Masood Azhar along with Sayeed Omar Sheikh, who is responsible for the murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl, wire transferred $100,000 to Mohammad Atta from Pakistan.

Planning for the attack: In 1999, Indian Airlines flight IC-814 was hijacked from Katmandu, Nepal. The modus operandi is strikingly similar as were the parties involved. Some of the key points include:

• The weapons used by the hijackers were box cutters, the very same type of knives used by the September 11th hijackers.
• The weapons used to take over the plane were brought into the secure zone of the Katmandu airport in a briefcase by an ISI man, Pakistani First Secretary Mohammed Arshad Cheema, from the Pakistan Embassy who got through the clearance using Diplomatic immunity clearance.
• Of the three terrorists released from Indian prisons as a result of this hijacking, Masood Azhar, Mushtaq Zargar and Sayeed Omar Sheikh, two of them wired money $100,000 to the September 11th hijackers.
• At the end of the journey, the hijacked plane landed in Khandahar, Afghanistan, were the hijackers along with the three releases terrorists easily escaped because the Taliban allowed them 10 hours to escape without pursuit. The hijackers easily made it through the porous border into Pakistan where they remain free.

Both hijacks used the same weapons, were backed by the same people and were sheltered by the Taliban. It is undeniable that both the hijacking of IC 814 and the four American airliners on September the 11th were the handiwork of a much greater network, the Al-Qaeda. The involvement of Pakistan Intelligence and terror groups allowed the hijacking of IC-814 to be possible. And through this practice run, and with the help of the terrorists released from Indian prisons, the attacks of September 11th, which killed more than 2,000 innocent civilians, were possible.

Continued Support for the Guilty:
Masood Azhar, the terrorist released from an Indian prison in 1999 after the hijacking of IC-814 and guilty of transfereing money to the Sepetmber 11th hijackers is currently under house arrest. This simply means he can operate with terrorist operations as long as he remains within his house. An interesting fact is that he was put under house arrest not for his terrorist related activites but for making the hardline speeches that threatened the Musharraf regime.

Sayeed Omar Sheikh is currentlty undergoing trial in Pakistan for the murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl. India has found him guilty of the murders of 6 western tourists in Kashmir in 1994. The United States has also asked that he be extradited for trial, but this will most likely not happen because Omar could reveal links between terrorist groups and the Pakistani intelliengence agency the ISI.
