My

Albums

Instead of the usual discography with all the songs and shite,
I thought it would be nice to tell you a bit about what I think of them.
Great, hey ???

Anyway, the way this page works is that if you click on any album,
you will find yourself in the lyrics page for that album.
On the lyrics page you will see a big album,
and that will lead you to CD-NOW.com, to buy the CD.

ENJOY !!!

Yes

The very first, and some very, very good tunes on this one.
I especially like Sweetness and Harold Land.

Time and a Word

The second, with Steve Howe on the cover. He doesn't play a single note though.
Nice orchestral arrangements as well.
The live version of Then is a lot better than the album version

The Yes Album

In the eyes of many YesHeads the real first Yes album.
Yours is no Digrace is chilling, Starship Trooper is mindnumbing.
Favorite of mine though is A Venture

Fragile

A Yes monument. Roundabout kicks ass, Heart of the Sunrise rocks.
One of those albums that takes a while before it really kicks in.
I had the same problem with Houses of the Holy (Led Zep's 1973 masterpiece)

Close to the Edge

According to many, and denied by none, their best album.
Close to the Edge is awesome, And you and I haunting.
Siberian Khatru's live version is better than the original, I think.
Although Tales and Relayer do it for me though.

YesSongs

Live twinalbum that marks the departure of Bill (not Gates, Bruford)
Alan took it over beautifully, and plays Bill under the table and out of the picture.
It takes a lot of drummer to be able to do that
(Honestly though; I don't think Close to the Edge would have sounded the same with Alan)

Tales from Topographic Oceans

One of my desert island albums for sure. AWESOME !!!
Absolutely one of their best ever !!!
The 4 songs represent some of the best music and lyrics ever written
Need I say more ??? Rick leaves after this one.

Relayer

Another great album. Gates of Delirium is tremendous, and does not at all remind of Tales
I can imagine that, at the time, people thought it was a leftover,
but I think it just came out this way.
Anyway, this is one of my all time favorites. First, last and only album with Patrick Moraz.

Yesterdays

Compilation. I love America. That's it. Oh...... This one was released because
Patrick Moraz had left, and Rick wasn't up for rejoining (yet).

Going for the One

Rick is BACK !!!. He's back and so were Yes. After Relayer it was a bit difficult
to come up with an original, but boy did they do it.
Turn of the Century and Awaken definitely cool tracks. I love it..

Tormato

I don't know about you, but I think it's a great album, with great songs.
Yes is starting to begin it's everchanging pattern here. Beautifull lovesong
on the album as well. For those who haven't got a clue. It's Onward I am talking about ..........
goosebumps all over.

Drama

Rick and Jon left after Tormato. Corination Street may be the longest
running soap, but Yes is certainly the most interesting. To replace the two,
Yes incorporated Bugles, a two piece band consisting of Trevor Horn and
Geoff Downes. No succes though. I mean, could they have titled this album more appropriate ???
Does it Really Happen is a cool track though.

YesShows

Twin Live album. I have got a feeling that Patrick Moraz is on this album somewhere.
It is one of those hunches you sometimes have. Anyway this is
definetely one of my favorite Yesalbums.

90125

While Steve Howe was busy with Asia, Trevor Rabin took over Yes.
According to some not the best Yes around, according to others
The smartest thing they ever did.Furthermore Tony Kaye came back as well .
Nice, clean and commercially sound album.

9012Live - The Solos

Good and nice live album, which, unfortunately, is not long enough.
Remember Rabin's solo....... isn't he quick ????

Big Generator

Yes had been appart and back together agian.
On this album, I love I'm Running and Jaccaranda.
First album in the eighties to actually sound a bit like Yes.
By now we were craving for Steve Howe though.

YesStory

Compilation album. Nothing more to it really. Nicely put together.

YesYears

The ultimate Yes compilation Album. Very nicely put together.
4CD's with a lot of previously unreleased tracks.

Union

And so the YesSoap continues. But really..... this shouldn't have happened.

Talk

And again it continues, but why call it Yes ??
This is The Trevor Rabin Band. Personally I don't think any musician is good enough to
have a band named after him. Very nice album though. A bit overproduced.
I love Endless Dream

Keys to Ascencion

The moment we all've been waiting for !! Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe are back with Yes. Classic Yes re-united !!
Awesome album, another desert island album. Siberian Khatru
is simply stunning, That, That is...... beautifull..... Keep up the good work we all thought.

Keys to Acsencion II

And they did.... with an original title, fellas......
Nah... seriously though. one studio CD. Not everybody's favorite, but I'm not one of them
Hope they play some KTA tunes on the next tour.

Open Your Eyes

Do you believe this ??? DESERT ISLAND ALBUM written all over it. This is re-innovated,
re-juvenated YES. PURE MAGIC. Is there anything else to tell about this album.
Except that Rick has left......again.

Beyond and Before

A long overdue tribute to Pete Banks
He is greatly underrated and that's why this album is here.
Great album, and almost made the desert island album top 10.

The Ladder

The new album. Anyone heard Lightning Strikes ???
Awesome track. I love The Messenger and
To Be Alive. This is one awsome album
Mail me and let me know what you think.

The story of Yes reads like a thriller. Yes has had more members than the Italian government.
Like I said, Coronation Street may be the longest running soap, Yes is certainly the most thrilling.
Although Deep Purple's story is also quite compelling, with Blackmore leaving,
coming back, leaving again and Ian Gillan leaving, coming back, leaving, coming back, leaving and
coming back again (could you believe that???), they never took each other to court over who had rights to the bandname .
(Remember ABWH ??? They were touring as Yes, as were Yes (Squire, Kaye, Rabin and White)
Jon and Chris took eachother to the court and the judge decided that the one member that never left got the name.
Of course this is in the old days when news came from newspapers and radio and tv. Remember that ???)

Yes started out in 1968, with Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Peter Banks, Tony Kaye and Bill Bruford.
After opening the farewellshow for Cream they made it big. In 1969 their debutalbum
was released and history made. Peter Banks left after recording the second album.
Steve Howe was his replacement. (Initially Yes had asked Robert Fripp, but he said no to the offer)
The crucial third album was released in 1970, and this gave Yes their fame and fortune.
Tony Kaye left shortly after, and was replaced by Rick Wakeman. Fragile and Close to the Edge followed,
and the legend started to take shape. During the CttE tour, Bill left, to be replaced by
Alan White, the only other yesmember not to leave Yes from that point. Tales from Topographic
Oceans follows the triple live album YesSongs, and after the tour Rick leaves to pursue a
solo career. He is replaced by Patrick Moraz, with whom they record Relayer.
After the tour the various bandmembers go off to record soloalbums, and re-emerge in 1977
with Going for the One and Rick. Tormato follows and Rick leaves again after the tour, taking
Jon Anderson with him, who strikes a very productive partnership with Vangelis.
Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes are asked to join Yes in 1979, and they record Drama.
After one more tour the band disbands for good, or so it seems. To everyone's
surprise in 1983 a re-juvenated Yes emerges from the ashes with Trevor Rabin
as the new guitarist, Tony Kaye on keyboards, Chris and Alan as the rhythmsection
and Jon on vocals. They release 90125, a title based on the catolognumber it
has in the Atco catalog. It spawns their biggest hit, Owner of a Lonely Heart,
and the album makes them immortal. Another album, Big Generator, is released,
but after that Yes disbands yet again. Anderson forms a new band with
Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman and Bill Bruford and for a while ABWH and Squire,
Kaye, White and Rabin both go touring as Yes. After courtcases and various other projects,
the members of both bands go off to record new albums. They happen to meet up in
one of the studios, and decide to record an album together. With 8 former
Yesmembers in the band, you would think it would be a great album, but it turns
out to be a big dissappointment. This is mainly because they record the album (Union)
as two bands, not as one. After the tour, there are Yesmembers flying left and right
and for a while it seems that Yes is gone for good. In 1994, however, they re-emerge
with Talk. Talk is not received well by fans or press but in my opinion it is one of the better albums
of the Rabin-era. Of course, Rabin wasn't to last forever. (Who ever is in Yes ??)
Wakeman and Howe both return to the fold in 1996 and they start recording a new album.
To warm up they play a few shows in San Louis Obispo, and the recordings of
one of those shows is so good, they decide to release it as a live album.
Keys to Ascencion is released in 1996, it's follow-up in 1997. Wakeman leaves
Even before the follow-up hits the stores and for a while
it seemed that everyone was posted as new keyboard player.
Instead they decided to give Billy Sherwood the honor of being
a full fledged bandmember. He already had produced KTA 1 and 2, and so the choice was obvious.
For the keyboard slot they decided to go for session musicians, and in the end
they took Igor Khoroshev with them on tour. He is still in the band today.
The best Yes album of the 80's and 90's is released in 1998 and Open Your Eyes,
and the subsequent tour, is a huge succes. The next chapter in the Yes saga has
already been written, entitled The Ladder.

What will be next ??? Will yes break up and re-emerge in a different incarnation with Peter Banks ??
If nothing else, that would be fun, now wouldn't it ???
Whatever happens, always remember, Yes excists because of the music.
Jon and Chris still aren't good friends, but, like Jon says on KTA, it is the
best music ever made, and you don't throw away something like that.
At the moment Rick is the bad boy, but I am sure that will cahnge in a year or two.
Then again, maybe it won't. I don't know or care because for me Yes is one of
my favorite three bands (The other two being Led Zeppelin en Kansas),
and in whatever incarnation they may record, I will always be a fan.

Yes is ultimate music, the kind I would like to play. Yes is amazing lyrics,
that always seem to strike a chord with me.

Yes is me.
