My wife wanted to try her hand at hand-dying thread. So she took some of my old white thread I had laying around and used thread dye in turquoise, purple and blue. She gave the thread to me for one of my Christmas presents. So I had to try this "new" thread immediately. I chose doily #1 out of Ruth Scharf's book "Occhi" Book#1. Unfortunately there wasn't enough thread on the dyed skein for me to finish the last row. But it still looks nice and the thread handled really well. Not sure what thread my wife used, but it was size 50. I would like to encourage you to try hand-dyeing your own thread. It is fun! But my wife is going to try something different next time and boil the thread first and then after dyeing, maybe give it a vinegar wash to set the color. After a while of tatting with this thread, I had stains on my finger. Oh well.....live and learn. |
