The Sun

The Sun

"The naked child mounted on a white horse and displaying a red standard has been mentioned already as the better symbolism connected with this card. It is the destiny of the Supernatural East and the great and holy light which goes before the endless procession of humanity, coming out from the walled garden of the sensitive life and passing of humanity, coming out from the walled garden of the sensitive life and passing on the journey home. The card signifies, therefore, the transit from the manifest light of this world, represented by the glorious sun of earth, to the light of the world to come, which goes before aspiration and is typified by the heart of a child.
But the last allusion is again the key to a different form or aspect of the symbolism. The sun is that of consciousness in the spirit--the direct as the antithesis of the reflected light. The characteristic type of humanity has become a little child therein--a child in the sense of simplicity and innocence in the sense of wisdom. In that simplicity, he bears the seal of nature and of Art; in that innocence, he signifies the restored world. When the self-knowing spirit has dawned in the consciousness above the natural mind, that mind in its renewal elads forth the animal nature ina state of perfect conformity."

The Sun

Leo Time- Sun Time- I always want to sing "here comes the sun---" when I look at this card, for no matter how I see it, there is joy and light here. The direct rays of the sun shine on the light of day and all is well.
How many of us have walked out into the day and felt the warmth of the sun on us, and sighed with the nurturing feeling? The sun has traditionally represented all that is light and bright, the energy needed to make the world grow and blossom. Yet too much sun has its downside and those who go without rain begin to fear the sun as destruction...again there must be balance. But in general, the sun is viewed with joy, a positive experience to be had-and we see the direct illumination as a blessing. The force of the sun, the attribute of male deity in most cultures, shows us how the world has traditionally viewed the solar disk.
There is something about the sun that is direct, unflinching and without any nuance..to escape the searing heat and burn of the sun one must hide in the shade- yet this directness is often needed to make us come forth and take ourselves out of the shadows into the light.
Look at the child on the white horse- see how the animal nature (naked, authentic child) is now mastered? The white horse of purity hold the child without need of control- no reigns, no saddle and also shows the movement of the individual forward. . The child has a wreath which if you look closely is made up of sun symbol--a circle witha dot in it...and there are six of them seen (so twelve total) There is a red plume reminiscent of the plum in the Fools hat, and there is rebirth about to happen!
The sunshines large and bright- in greater proportion to the sky than normal. With the face of the sun clear- the Godself coming forth and out to the word- there are 11 straight rays (connecting to the physical world) and then the ten wavy rays go to the subconscious mind and both add to the no. 21, the World card coming up...There is one wavy line near the roman numberal and some authors thinki t represents the number 0 Fool card. The lines also represent our masculine and femine aspects- once again calling us to the duality of all things.
There are sunflowers which are interestingly facing the child, rather the sun as in nature- symbolizing the brightness that comes from the child. The wall is behind the child- the barriers behind the child- all has been conqured, and is in the past. There is a banner with a black wand and orange flag- orange is a fire color, creative with waves showing the movement of life within all the realms, all the senses.
In divination this is a wonderful happy card- usually we see someone who is moving forward, perhaps a new image, certainly someone who has tackled the problems and is now enjoying the positive aspects of their lives, there are good prospects and there is creativity. The sun brings forth life- in nature and also pyschologically. But what about reversals- some authors feel there is little negative, but I would suggest that you look at the place of the sun in the spread and how it relates to the other cards. There can be excess and it is good to see that to determine if the joy is delayed or if there is too much sun and something is scorched, ruined.
