ShadowWolf - The Moon

The Moon
"The distinction between this card and some of the conventional types is that
the moon is increasing on what is called the side of mercy, to the right of
the observer. It has sixteen chief and sixteen secondary rays. The card
represents life of the imagination apart from life of the spirit. The path
between the towers in the issue into the unknown. The dog and wolf are the
fears of the natural mind in the presence of that place of exit, when there is
only refelcted light to guide it.
The last reference is a key to another form of symbolism. The intellectual
light is a relection and beyond it is the unknown mystery which it cannot shew
forth. It illuminates our animal nature, types of which are repesented
below--the dog, the wolf and that which comes up out of the deeps, the
nameless and hideous tendency which is lower than the savage beast. It
strives to attain manifestation, symbolized by crawling from the abyss of
water to the land, but as a rule it sinks back whence it came. The face of
the mind directs a calm gaze upon the unrest below; the dew of thought falls;
the message is: Peace, be still; and it may be that there shall come a calm
upon the animal nature, while the abyss beneath shall cease from giving up a
form." A.E. Waite
The Moon
Finally, I have been able to work on this class- thank you for your patience.
I'm going to try and finish the majors this next few weeks...hopefully.
The Moon- I wonder if the reason that there is more than just all the
activities and stress that have kept me from writing this lecture. The Moon
often connected with the shadows, the dark side, and the other worlds of our
lives- yet there is so much more to the Moon than that dark side, the lunacy.
The Moon belongs to the eb and flow of the world, the tides of the oceans.
The refelction of the sun brings a cool light that does not warm, but does
illuminate. This light can reach the darkest corners of the woods and forests,
and thus it can reach the darkest corners of our minds. This is the
connection that allows us to see the evolution of our selves- to move from the
base to the height of the sun and moon balanced above in the sky. Do we move
towards the enlightened conscious or do we stay in the battle for our souls?
This card shows us that there are dualities, once again, to all of us and this
is seen in the two animals, the two towers, and the one path that must be
found for one to grow. In this lesson it is important to remember that one
must first recognize the dualities, the sides of our own nature- and the moon
allows us to see the shadows that we might well ignore in the direct sunlight.
Here we have an opportunity to face those things about ourselves that we may
not find palatable, likable, or 'nice' and realize the part they play in our
lives, accept and embrace them; until then we will continue with the
dichotomies that separate us from being our true selves.
We see the eclispesed sun int he card, a rare event, traditionally the merging
of the male and female, the dualities merged, unified so that there are no
more secrets. The Moon has a face with it- again urging one to explore their
shadows. The blue background is not a typical night scene (although azure is
a color of the sky more commonly seen without the city light diffusion); the
two towers echo the two pillars we've seen before, there are no doors in the
pillar- only one window (remember this from the Tower)- a warning of how one
can become their own prisoner...with hte fugure signified by the mountains in
the distant. The 15 yods or flames show us that we can change things and that
there is always the spiritual path, the golden path to the sun...(ok- I have
to mention the yellow brick road here). The dogs and wolf illustrate the the
tamed side of us, the wolf the feral. We see also a crayfish , a bottom
dweller who lives in the basest of conditions and there is the beginning- the
path up through the wild and domestication, the acceptance and merging of the
two so that we can reach yet higher.
In divination ask what is not being looked at honestly , what is going on that
is being hidden that perhaps needs to be search, what unconscious needs or
emotions are there? Think of what fears, changes, ideas are yet to be
revelaed? Is there a falseness or deception? Does some thing, person or
situation make you crazy? Do you feel like you can't find balance?
