1. New Brunswick station
in New jersey, U.S.A. A speeding Metroliner (>170 kmph) zooms by me. Dunno how I
got this pic: I lost my GG2 cap that went flying away and was never found. An AEM7 (Swede
built Re4) with pencil-thin pantographs. |

|
2. SD 40-2? Or is it a
GP? A rare diesel-hauled commuter train at New Brunswick. |

|
3. The other side of a
push-pull commuter train. NJ Transit at Metropark, NJ on a rainy day. |

|
4. The most common
locomotive for passenger duties: the ubiquitous F40PH with an empty train at Long Branch,
NJ. |

|
5. The SEPTA commuter
train (that does the Trenton-Philadelphia service) waits in the yard. Its the repainted
AEM7, I guess. Its in Trenton station. Trenton is the capital of NJ State. |

|
6. The railroad room in
the Benjamin Franklin Museum in Philadelphia PA houses a replica of The Rocket (seen here)
and a Baldwin 6000 steamer. The rear wall was built after these locos were moved inside. |

|
7. The Baldwin 6000. It
is moved hydraulically on a short stretch of track. |

|
8. 30th Street,
Philadelphia-the most important junction ont he New York-Washington DC Amtrak North East
corridor. No concept of an enclosed trip shed et al! The locos (a Genesis electro diesel
on the 3rd rail) wait on the dead end tracks. The Genesis machines do the Pa-NY
clocker service. |

|
9. A GG-1 model at a
permanent layout in NJ. I had been to this place withAnand Rangachari, and it had a
complex layout with dozens of trains running simultaneously. |

|
10. An SD-40 (?) diesel
unit with the train we took from Rahway. This is Rahway, NJ, a junction for the Beach line
to Bayhead from the NE corridor. |

|
11. New Haven CT. Two
different trains come together, get coupled and run together southwards towards Washington
DC. My train came in from Boston. This new one with the lady in it is from Springfield. |

|
12. Finally, the diesel
takes over from the electric. The Washington DC-Boston line is electrified till New Haven,
CT. The New Haven CT-Boston MA line will shortly go under the wires. |

|
13. The long branch
line, as we stopped for a crossing. This is the NJ Transit in action. |

|
14. The 914 AEM7 at
Metropark, NJ. Its surprisingly clean: its usually splattered with dead insects when it
comes in from a night run. |

|
15. Two AEM7s in
different liveries cross at Metropark. |

|
16. Side view of the #
948 Amtrak electric. This is the last one in its series. |

|
17. A Philadelphia
commuter train. Its a tube/subway unit that comes out into the daylight on the city
outskirts. |

|
18. An NJT e.m.u./Comet
rushes south to Princeton, off New Brunswick. Note the height of the catenary
supports-they carry power lines on top! (My
comment: Note also the twin single collector pantographs: an unique US oddity, rare like
the BR cross-arm pantos.) |

|
19. Boston Route 128
station. I had come to see Vijay here. The catenary wire in not energized yet, and hence
its still diesel service! |
