The Yarra River

Off to the CONASTA 54 conference in Melbourne which gave me a chance to have a good look at Melbourne city and gallivant all over Victoria - it's such a SMALL state! "Yarra yarra" means "flowing". This is Melbourne's river. There are lots of boats that work and cruise the Yarra River. Port Melbourne is one of the biggest ports in the Southern Hemisphere so there were lots of container ships in port. I went on three river cruises both up-river and down-river. An area down-river is being developed as "Docklands" and features new apartment buildings right on the river close to the CBD.
