By far, the best thing for you to do is to contact publishers by letter, in the first instance.(include an SAE for their reply) Ask if they have any author guidelines. Collect as many guidelines as you can, they are of great help and will save wasted time and postage to unsuitable publishers.
Remember than even publishers who do not accept unsolicited manuscripts, may still look at and consider well presented manuscripts, if approached properly. If they don't accept manuscripts, without prior permission, then you could try sending a polite cover letter and short synopsis. Ask if they would like to see the rest of the manuscript.

Multiple Submissions
|
|
To most publishing houses, it is now acceptable to send out the same manuscript to a number of publishers at the same time. If you were to send it to one, only, you could wait months for a reply. And then if rejected you would have to start all over again. So by all means send it similtaneously. But note one golden rule for this - always state in your cover letter that the work is also being considered else where at the present time.
