" The Committee was informed by one of the banks i.e. State Bank of India that they have set up a special line to provide SWIFT services to some of their bigger customers. The Committee appreciates that provision of SWIFT for all SSI exporters will entail large costs, but the banks should consider providing such services at least for big SSI clusters. During discussions with the Chairmen of Banks, we were informed that most of the banks either possess or have already initiated action to install SWIFT in branches providing foreign exchange facilities. The working of this could be streamlined and expanded further to ensure that the SSIs do not have any complaints regarding delays, etc."
