| The college was established and run by the
Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China. Mr. Kwei
Wah Shan, a successful entrepeneur, made a major contribution
to the project by donating a sum of HK$400,000 for its
construction. The foundation stone was laid by Rev. Wu Mau Sau,
pastor of the C. C. C. Hong Kong Man Nam Church, on 4th June,
1976. The school was completed and classes started on 1st
September, 1977 and the school was named 'Church of Christ in
China Kwei Wah Shan College'. It was the twelfth secondary
school directly supervised by our Council and was officially
opened on 12th November, 1977 with Dr. Yung Chi Tung
officiating at the opening ceremony. |
The college was founded through the
careful planning and vigorous pursuit of our late Rev. Peter
Wong, the General Secretary and General Supervisor of the
Council whose contribution to the college was enormous. He was
also the first supervisor of college for the first seven
years. Rev. Miss Lee Ching Chee was the acting supervisor for
about one year from 1984 to 1985, and from May 1985, Rev. Kwok
Nai Wang took up the position and became the supervisor of the
college. All our supervisors have contributed greatly in the
making of policies and the setting of objectives and goals of
the college. They have provided us with unequivocal and
invaluable guidance so that the college can progress steadily
in the right direction over the last ten years. |
| Previously, the college was a private non-profit
-making secondary school participating in the government's
bought-place scheme and obtaining per capita grant. However,
following the government's enforcement of the nine-year free
and compulsory education in 1978, we were invited to change
over to a fully government subsidized school in three stages
over a period of three years, starting from 1979. |
Our sponsor, Mr.Kwei Wah Shan, apart from making
his initial donation for building the college, has always taken
a keen interest in the affairs of the college and the well-
being of its staffs and students. In January, 1986, in
remembrance of his late spouse, Dr. Mary Hui Ling Lee, he
donated another sum of HK$300,000 to set up the Dr. Hui Ling
Lee Memorial Hall and the Memorial Library. With his generous
donation, we were able to improve the provisions in the hall
and increase our volume of books in the library. We owe all
these improvements to his great concern for the school. |
In the first school year, there were only eight
classes of Form One. Our development plan was to add one higher
form each year, and finally in the academic year of 1983 to
1984, with the setting up of all classes from Form One to Form
Seven, the development was completed. There are now more than
eleven hundred students in the college with a total of 30
classes arranged as follows:
Form 1--6 classes, Form 2--6 classes, Form 3--6 classes,
Form 4--4 classes, Form 5--4 classes, Form 6--2 classes,
Form 7--2 classes.

It is a great loss to our college that
Mr. Kwei Wah Shan passed away on the ninth of March, 1987 and
cannot be with us at our tenth anniversary celebration.
However, we find consolation in knowing that he attained the
venerable age of 92 and has witnessed God's abundant grace
towards His children. In God's arms and His loving care, he
now rests in peace and may his spirit of love for God and all
mankind continue to warm our hearts. |
