Stadium Fiasco!!!

As you'll all be aware, the Scottish Executive have given the go ahead for Ayr United to build a new stadium, but have turned down the apllication to build a retail outlet next to it which would have helped to fund the building.

I've never been a fan of politics in this country. By and large they seem to be a bunch of jumped up ex public school boys, that have no idea what the ordinary man in the streeet wants or thinks, and spend most of there days shouting 'Here Here' when there friends make a completely irrelevant speach or booing when one of the opposition makes a point they dont like. Debates are more like a primary school name calling competition and the behaviour of most would, are like spoiled school children anyway.

But on Friday there was the worst display of politcal naivety I have ever seen. So near yet so far from the dream of all Ayr United fans, a new SPL compliant stadia.

This is a kick in the teeth not only for AUFC, the UfH campaign but for everyone in Ayr and the surrounding area
Not to grant planning permission for the retail outlet, means that Ayr Utd and Bill Barr are £6 million short in funding the new stadium. I would suggest that the plans will now be put on hold if not cancelled completely.
How the Labour party can suggest they are the party of the people when they go against the wishes of the vast majoirty of people in Ayr and the surrounding area, the local councils recomendation and the recomendation of the enquiry held by the Scottish Executive.
Why have they spent £1 Million in the country's money to produce a 176 page report, only for Sam Galbraith , who has already presided over the fiasco of the Exam results, to reject the application out of hand, after it had been approved?

Also the rejection will hit Ayr hard in the near future. In a Scottish Executive report it states that, by the year 2004 the town centre in Ayr wont be able to handle the ammount of traffic. So why turn turn Barr's application that provided the use of the car park at the stadium (except match day), and had gifted the council land to use for a rail link to the town centre? As im sure you are all aware Ayr is a town which is about the last refuge of the Tory party in Scotland. With this decision it would seem to me that Labour don't want to regain it in the near future, as they have just allienated all the supporters of the club.

But its not just Ayr that wont be voting Labour in the near future, its Falkirk as well. Although I dont know the ins and outs of the situation, it is the Labour local council that are putting obsticles in the way, and refusing grants that they were promised.

Im sure your all as angry about this as I am, this is a travesty and everything possible should be done to try and reverse the decision. I dont think it is feasible for the club, or Bill Barr to fund the building with out the retail development. You only have to see what has happened to the likes of Raith and Airdrie, who have built All seated Stadia, and are now in dire finacial trouble to see that if we dont get promotion, the club could go under trying to finance the building.
