NBA Finals 1999

photoA season to believe

Over 350,000 fans packed the city's Riverwalk on June 26, 1999 for the team's victory parade, which was done in San Antonio style - players, coaches, owners, front office staff and, of course, the team's Baseline Bums floating along the river on barges under the hot Texas sun.

Game 1: Spurs sparkle in Finals debut
photo Playing in front of a worldwide audience and an ear-splitting Alamodome crowd of 39,514 that included 150 fans from his native St. Croix, Tim Duncan calmly went about his business. And when he was done hanging up 33 points and 16 rebounds, the Spurs had an 89-77 victory over New York to put in the books for the franchise's first game in the Finals.

David Robinson had 13 points on 3-10 FG and 7-12 FT, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 steals.

Game 2: Spurs get 12th straight playoff win
photo As the well-worn saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And the 39,554 fans at the Alamodome on Friday night saw only one thing in the second-lowest scoring game in Finals history: an 80-67 Spurs victory over New York. To that, they enthusiastically replied, "Sweep! Sweep!"

David Robinson had 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Game 3: Houston-led Knicks win
photo It was one of those nights when Allen Houston poured in 34 points. When the Spurs committed 20 turnovers. When Tim Duncan couldn't find the basket in crunch time. When Mario Elie couldn't even stay on the court long enough to hear the Madison Square Garden crowd mockingly yell, "Elie sucks!"

David Robinson had 25 points including 13-17 FT and 10 rebounds.

Game 4: Spurs survive Knicks' run
photo Shrugging off their first loss in 13 games, the Spurs held off New York 96-89 to move within one win of the franchise's first championship. No team has ever blown a 3-1 lead in Finals history. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 28 points.

David Robinson had 14 points, 17 rebounds including 9 offensive, and 4 blocks.

Game 5: Mission accomplished
photo The Spurs survived Latrell Sprewell's missed shot at the buzzer to win the franchise's first NBA championship Friday night at Madison Square Garden. Avery Johnson gave the Spurs a 78-77 lead with 47 seconds left by knocking down an open 18 footer on the baseline. Sprewell missed and Johnson corralled the rebound.

David Robinson had 15 points including 5-14 FG and 12 rebounds.
