NBA Finals 2003

The San Antonio Spurs celebrated their second NBA championship in a familiar way. Taking a cue from their first title celebration in 1999, the Spurs had a barge parade down the city's famous Riverwalk, followed by a boisterous rally with 50,000 people at the Alamodome. The Riverwalk was packed with fans, who cheered players and the glimmering gold trophy that the Spurs won by defeating the New Jersey Nets in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Game 1:
Julius ``Dr. J.'' Erving and George ``Ice'' Gervin took part in a ceremonial opening tip using a red, white and blue ball. This was the first time two former ABA teams have competed against each other in the finals. Duncan had a stat line worthy of his MVP status with 32 points, 20 rebounds, seven blocks, six assists and three steals as San Antonio snapped the Nets' 10-game postseason winning streak and handed them their first loss in 39 days.

A decisive third-quarter run  led San Antonio to a 101-89 victory over the New Jersey Nets in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

David Robinson had 14 points on 6-8 FG, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Game 2:
Led by the late free throw shooting of Jason Kidd and the insertion of Dikembe Mutombo into the rotation, the New Jersey Nets evened the championship series at one game apiece by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 87-85.

David Robinson had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

Game 3:
Tony Parker scored 26 points, and Duncan had 21 points and 16 rebounds as the Spurs overcame one of the most pitiful offensive games in finals history to beat the New Jersey Nets 84-79, taking a 2-1 lead in the series.

Duncan's flair and Parker's four clutch 3-pointers aside, there wasn't a lot of artistic flavor in the game that featured 37 turnovers, 43 fouls and the lowest-scoring first half in finals history.

David Robinson had 8 points and 3 rebounds.

Game 4:
But when Ginobili launched a 3-pointer that could have tied the game with 3 seconds left, the struggles of the previous 48 minutes were forgotten for a moment. Strangely enough, these teams' relatively equal awfulness has produced a tense series with the promise of genuine drama -- or at least more tragi-comedy.

Kenyon Martin had 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Ginobili badly missed the next-to-last shot in the Nets' bruising 77-76 victory over the Spurs in Game 4 Wednesday night. New Jersey's first home finals victory evened the series at 2-2

David Robinson had 14 points including 4-5 FG, 7 rebounds including 3 offensive.

Game 5:
Tim Duncan had 29 points and 17 rebounds, and seldom-used veteran Steve Kerr made two key baskets in the fourth quarter of San Antonio's 93-83 victory over the Nets in Game 5 on Friday night, sending the Spurs home with a 3-2 series lead.

There was nothing spectacular about the Spurs' effort: They shot a respectable percentage (47.8), got 35 points from their fired-up reserves and played their usual mix of man-to-man and zone defenses that have baffled the Nets.

David Robinson had 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Game 6:
Duncan carried the Spurs to their second league title with an 88-77 victory over the New Jersey Nets in Game 6 of the NBA Finals Sunday night. With 21 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists and eight blocked shots, he easily captured his second finals MVP award.

``My last game, streamers flying, world champions,'' Robinson said. ``How can you write a better script than this? It's unbelievable. I'm going to end my career on the highest of highs.''

And Robinson, who's never had a problem sharing his success, roared into retirement with 13 points and 17 rebounds, playing a key role in his final victory.
