Accidental Death

An inquest into the death of Miss Isabelle O'Garick, of Arnouts' Addition, who was killed in a fall from the roller coaster at Schuylkill Park, was held by Deputy Coroner Schultz, of Port Carbon.  the jury heard a number of witnesses and returned the verdict of accidental death.

Death of Mrs. Holshue

The sudden death of Mrs. Stephen Holshue, which occurred at Shenandoah Thursday afternoon, was a shock to the entire community.

The rumors which were broadcasted in town could not be verified for sometime, as Mr. Holshue was attending the Elks' convention in Bethlehem.

The cold blooded murder was perpetrated by Marcus Kochnir, a Greek, of Shenandoah who is now confined in the country prison to await trial.

Mrs. Holshue, accompanied by her niece, Mrs. Willis Eisenhuth, transacted business in Shenandoah and was leaving for home when approached by the assassin who fired five shots at her, four of them taking effect.

Mrs. Holshue is survived by her husband, one son Russell, her mother; two sisters and two brothers.

 

Coroner's Inquest

Deputy Coroner Richard Gray held an inquest into the death of John Kontra, who met sudden death by a rush of coal, in the workings of the Reppelier Coal Co.

The jury composed of Messrs. John Midgley, James Johns; James H. Hughes, Milton Price, Wilbur Crawshaw and Oscar Martin, returned a verdict of accidental death.

 

John J. Edwards

The funeral of John J. Edwards, aged 16 years, son of Mrs. Barbara and the late Linn Edwards, which took place from his home on North Third Street, Tuesday morning, was largely attended by friends and relatives.

 

St. Michael's Beneficial Society and St. Mary's Junior Cadets attended in a body.  High mass was celebrated in St. Mary's church by Rev. McCloskey and Rev. Brogan.

 

Interment was made in the parish cemetery.  K.F. Monahan was the director.

 

Picnic and Dance

St. Michael's United with Rome Greek Catholic Church will hold their picnic and dance at the New Castle picnic grounds, next Monday and Tuesday, August 31 and September 1

GRAND  BALL

A grand ball will be held in the Palace Hall, Arnout's Addition, August 29 and 30, under the auspices of teh Columbia Social Club of town.

 

Borough Force Busy

Supervisor Peter Flanagan has his force of men engaged repairing the bridges over the "river" and cleaning the stream at several places.  A point above Railroad Street was causing annoyance to the residents on account of stagnation of the water at the sewer outlet.  The workmen have removed the cause and the result is very satisfactory.

Misses Alice and Margaret Mischinsky have returned to their home in Worcester, Mass. after several weeks stay at the home of Barney Kaltauckas.
