The Bethlehem Baptist Church (former English & Welsh Baptist) on Carroll and Front Streets was organized in 1870 by Reverend A. H. Sembower.  Rev. T. D. Morris served this church for 37 years.

Merged with the Welsh Baptist Church and renamed to Bethlehem Baptist.  During the 1930's the Welsh Baptist church became the Social Hall for the new Baptist Church.

Land for this church & minister was donated by Ann Griffith.

Today the minister is Rev. Greg Reiser

 

The Welsh Baptist Church around pictured here around 1901.  Sat in the middle of the block of  S. Front Street.  A single family home is now located where the church was.

1908-June 22-Rev. T. F. Butler. new St. Clair Baptist pastor, was in charge

St. Michael's Greek Catholic Russian Orthodox Church which is located on North Nicholas Street was organized by Rev. N. Mulchany in 1897.  Rev. A. S. Slepecky served the church for nearly 50 years.

St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church in Deiner's Hill was built in 1903.  The first pastor was Father Schaff.  Bottom of Diener's Hill just off Caroline Ave.

The land for this church was once a picnic grove where the town would hold annual picnics.  It was owned by the Dormer family who owned the hotel/tavern/brewery across the street.

St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church  on North Morris Street was built in 1905 with Rev. Levitsky as the first pastor. North Morris Street

S.S. Peter and Paul Polish Church on North Mill Street was organized in 1906 by Rev. Olishienski.  North Mill Street

 

In the early 1960's, during a late evening storm, lightening struck the cross on this church sending it crashing to the pavement smashing the concrete.

1940's

The First United Presbyterian Church on North Mill Street was organized as the Slovak Presbyterian Church in 1920 by Rev. George Bardarik, who served the church for 30 years.

St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Mill and Hancock Streets was organized in 1863 by Rev. James A. Brehony. Corner of Mill and Hancock Streets.  St. Mary's also operated a Parochial school across the street on the corner of Mill and Hancock Streets. Next to the school was the convent were the Sisters/teachers lived.  The school was closed in the mid-1980's.

Established by the Irish Catholics.

CEMETERIES

Saint Clair has five cemeteries:  Odd Fellows, Saint Michael's Cemetery, old St. Mary's on Arnouts Addition, St. Mary's, Queen of the Universe,  and a Borough cemetery.  Immaculate Conception cemetery is located behind the church in East Norwegian Township.
