19 August in El Paso, Texas Gene Roddenberry is born
The Early 1960's:
Gene Roddenberry now an accomplished western writer and ex-police officer starts to develop an idea for a TV series which he refers to as "Wagon Train to the Stars". The Actual name for his series is "Star Trek"
1964
Roddenberry recieves the first of many rejections from MGM for his series idea of Star Trek. One of many reasons for the rejection is the fact that Sci-Fi is to difficult and to exspensive to produce.
Roddenberry goes to Desilu Studios and they agree to develop Star Trek. Rodeenberry is signed to a deal. Desilu try and sell the series to CBS. But CBS make a series called "Lost in Space" instead.
NBC fund a pilot of Star Trek with a script written by Gene Roddenberry.
1965
The finished pilot episode is deleivered to NBC and they reject it. But NBC order a 2nd pilot episode asking that several changes be made. Among them is the elimination of the alien Mr Spock and the women 2nd in command. Roddenberry agrees to the 2nd but not the 1st. 3 new episodes are written "Mudds Women, The Omega Glory and Where no man has gone before.
1966
NBC accepts the 2nd pilot, productions begins on the 1st regular episode which is called "The Corbomite Maneuver".
1968
NBC cancels Star Trek at the end of seasons 2. Amassive letter campaign by the public results in NBC announing that Star Trek is renewed for a 3rd series.
The show is scheduled on Fridays at 10pm, considered at the time to be a graveyard slot. Roddenberry resigns as show producer.
1969
After being cancelled after just 3 seasons Star Trek immediatly returns as re-runs in a more popular time slot. The new exposure earns massive amounts of fans for Star Trek.
1973
An animated version of Star Trek is made using the voices of the original actors.
1978
Paramount announces plans to make a major feature film.
1979
Star Trek "The Motion Picture" is released and is a resonding financial success.
1980
After the success of the Mottion Picture a 2nd Star Trek film is developed. Its name is Star Trek II "The Wrath of Khan". Fans react badly when they discover the plan to kill off Spock.
1982
Star Trek II is released and is an instant success. Before its release the ending is changed to leave the door open for Spock to return some how after his death. Shortly after Leonard Nimoy states he would! be willing to return and plans are made for Star Trek III.
1984
Star Trek III "The Search for Spock" is released.
1986
Star Trek IIII "The Voyager Home" is released with Leonard Nimoy directing as he did in Star Trek III. On the 20th Anniversary Paramount announce they are planning a new Star Trek series entitled "Star Trek The Next Generation". There will be an all new cast and a new ship.
1987
Star Trek The Next Generation begins. Patrick Stewart leads the Enterprise D as Captain Jean Luc Picard.
1988
William Shatner directs the 5th film installment called Star Trek V "The Final Frontier"
Star Trek The Next Generation is renewed for a 2nd series.
A barperson called Guinan joins the crew of the Enterprise D played by Whoopi Goldberg.
1989
STNG is signed for a 3rd series.
1990
STNG is renewed for an unprecedented 4th series. The final episode of the season is the shows 100th episode.
1991
Gene Roddenberry dies at the age of 70. Also Star Trek VI "The Undiscovered Country" is released and is thought to be the last Star Trek film featuring the Original series crew.
1993
Star Trek "Deep Space Nine" premieres. This time the show is based on a space station commanded by Commander Benjamin Sisko played be Avery Brooks.
1994
STNG completes its 7th and final series after a run of 178 episodes.
The VII Star Trek movie "Generations" is released, starring the crew of STNG. It also stars William Shatner as Captain Kirk.
1995
Star Trek "Voyager". A show set set on-board a ship called "Voyager". This time captain by Kathryn Janeway. Played by Kate Mulgrew.
Michael Dorn (aka) Lt Commander Worf joins the crew of Deep Space Nine as their Strategic Operations Officer.
1996
Star Trek celebrates its 30th anniversary with a DS9 episode called "Trials and Tribble-ations" where the crew go back in time to stop a disgraced Klingon from assasinating Captain Kirk.
Also the 8th feature film Star Trek "First Contact" directed by Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) is released.
Paramount celebrates 30 years of Star Trek in Huntsville, Alabama. The event is attended by all the original cast aswell as actors from STNG, DS9 and Voy. Huntsville is officially renamed "Star Trek, Alabama" for the weekend.

Star Trek "Insurrection" the 9th Star Trek film is released.
1999
DS9 ends after the 7th series climax with Captain Sisko saving Bajor from the evil Gut Dukat.
