George Takei is best known to most people for playing Mr Sulu, helmsmen of the USS Enterprise from Paramount TV series "Star Trek". (TOS)
Takei is was born in LA (USA) in 1940 on April the 20th. But after December 7th 1941 and the attack on Pearl he and his family were forced to relocate to a detention camp in Arkansas. They were then moved to another camp in California.
When after the war when Takei went to College he considered studying to become an architect, but changed his mind in favour of drama. In 1960 he graduated with a degree.
Takei made his acting premier in a Playhouse 90 production while he was attending UCLA. While he was taking classes, Takei also trained at the Desilu Workshop.
Earlier guest slots include, Mr. Novak, Hawaiian Eye, Perry Mason, I Spy, It Takes a Thief and My Three Sons.
Takei's Star Trek career began in the 2nd pilot episode called "Where No Man Has Gone Before".
During Star Treks 2nd series Takei took time off from Trek and appeared in a film with Hollywood LEGEND John Wayne called "The Green Berets"
After Star Trek was cancelled, Takei had guest roles on numerous prime time TV series, including Kung Fu, The Six Million Dollar Man and Miami Vice.
In 1972, Takei was a California delegate in the Democratic National Convention, and in the fall of 1973, he ran for post as Mayor of LA. He didn't win the election.
In the 80s, Takei hosted a TV series which dealt with issues involving human relationships. He also co-wrote the Star Trek novel, "Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe."
In 1994 he penned his memoirs in "To the Stars."
