Steve,
Despite the great Crimebuster story and the other enjoyable features ('Daffy' and the text story about Sqeeks come to mind), I think the standout feature in the first issue of 'Crimebusters' was the interview with William Nolan. Bill came off quite well, and was amazingly modest about what I consider to be a great accomplishment. Now that it's possible to look forward to several golden age stories each month, it's almost easy to take 'Pure Excitement Comics' for granted, despite the fact that Bill's efforts were a milestone. He's probably done more to foster the love of golden age comics than all the texts on the subject combined, and I was glad to see him get some well deserved recognition. You did a good job with the interview and the graphics were a nice touch. 'Crimebusters' is off to a good start, and I look forward to the addition of Daredevil and/or the Little Wise Guys to future issues.

Thanks,
Jon

I agree, despite how happy I was with the rest of the issue, the interview was a stand out. Bill's a great guy, and has done A LOT to preserve comic history. He deserves some recognition! Without his efforts I wouldn't have ever become as interested in Golden Age comics as I have, and certainly not as interested in the lesser lights!

As for the graphics work, you can thank the University of Louisville for that! I had to get Microsoft Office (and pay $500) for several of my classes (and really for my major), and I'm looking for every chance I can get to use it and all of it's features! I'm wanting to have more features like this in the future, but only one thing planned at the moment. In the near future (two weeks) you can look forward to a nice Blackhawk article by 'DarkMark' who has done much of the Golden Age indexing for The Grand Comics Database! If anyone out there has articles that you wrote and are looking for a place to use them, let me know! I'm thinking of doing one on Fawcett, Fox, Nedor, or Quality myself. In fact, I will have to do research paper for english, and with Fawcett having had major offices here in Louisville, hmm... Anyway, here's an actual letter I got in the mail (along with an order for a CD):

Dear Steve,
Hope you are doing well in your studies and that life is treating you well. I don't check out the Yahoo Clubs much anymore (work and family take up a lot of my time), but I do look at your site from time to time.

I loved the "Iron Jaw's Iron Lung" story in your first issue of Crimebusters. It was one I had never read before. Even though this story was published long before Iron Jaw became a total bafoon, I think a little bit of silliness was already creeping into the characterization. A henchman named Yogurt? Still, the way Iron Jaw made an example of the guy who wanted no part of killing was pretty grim.

Steve, I can't thank you enough for the fine work you do.

Take care,
Mark

I hope you don't have TOO much of an adverse reaction to the "bafoon" Iron Jaw, Mark. I have several of them waiting in the wings, and another "cartoon" of a villain is coming up in the next issue! I'm glad you like my site and what I do here. I've got some great things planned for these books, and some ideas for the rest of the site as well! I hope you and everyone else will stick around, because these are the golden years of the Golden Years!

Well, that's it for the letters this month! Be sure to come back next month, and well, for all the books I publish in between!

I WANT to hear from you! Tell me what you liked/disliked, loved/hated about this issue! If you have a request I can't promise that I can grant it but I'll see what I can do. Just e-mail me at Steve_Rogers_Captain_America@yahoo.com thanks!

-Steve

Aah, don't you miss comics like this? Bright cover, bold logo, and an almost silly villain? Just take a second and bask in the simplicity of Blue Beetle. Ahhhhhhhh.....
