Lawrence Dallaglio
Tetley's Bitter Cup winners last year, Wasps also reached the last eight of the Heineken Cup, but their finishing Premiership position of eighth will have disappointed the Loftus Road club. Director of Rugby Nigel Melville is one of the most respected coaches in the English game, but still failed to prevent Wasps from becoming the most inconsistent team in the Premiership, especially away from Loftus Road.

The domestic cup holders will be without key players Alex King and Trevor Leota for early league games through injury, but still possess quality throughout the squad, particularly up front where England forwards Lawrence Dallaglio, Phil Greening and Joe Worsley are critical to Wasps' cause. Behind the scrum Josh Lewsey is underrated but they will miss the boot of Gareth Rees.

A lot depends on the hot and cold goal-kicking of Kenny Logan, and the fitness of Dallaglio. With the Lions tour at the tail of the season, the number of games Dallaglio will play is of prime concern. He was not going to start the season, but an injury to the in-form Peter Scrivener has meant he may play sooner than expected. Scrivener will be out for eight weeks

The signing of Phil Greening from Sale sets up an intriguing battle for the number two shirt. Leota was one of Wasps best players last season and a firm crowd favourite, while Greening is a thoroughly modern hooker, with a near complete game around the park, often playing like a centre. It may well come down to who has more reliable throw-in.

The side has the potential to finish higher than last year, and they have a great team spirit but must strive for more consistency and put teams away early. Cup contenders again but probably not good enough for the Premiership title.
