Vijay Singh
Vijay Singh - the reigning Masters champion and the only man apart from Tiger Woods to win a major event this year - will be returning to St. Nom-la-Breteche this week in an attempt to recapture the title he won back in 1994. The amiable Fijian will be joined by several of the biggest names on the European Tour including Ian Woosnam, Jose Maria Olazabal, Nick Faldo, Paul Lawrie and Seve Ballesteros.

But despite their experience and ability, it would be unwise to discount the threat posed by Sweden's Pierre Fulke - who picked up the recent Scottish PGA Championship at Gleneagles - and who will also be hoping he can defend the French title that he won last year. Fulke's sealed his breakthrough victory at St. Nom with a dramatic 25ft birdie putt on the final hole to edge out Spain's Ignacio Garrrido.

But with such a high quality field taking to the fairways this weekend it would be a surprise if the Swede can repeat last year's success and take home the trophy for a second year in succession. Singh and Olazabal will be two of the bigger names jetting over from the US to compete in St. Nom - but don't forget to look out for the charismatic Jean Van de Velde, who is sure to be lifted by his home support and is overdue a big win on the European Tour.
