Narrowly missing
out on the play-offs and finishing the season in 7th place was a bitter
pill to swallow for Wolves fans who must be beginning to wonder if their
team will ever return to the top flight - 16 years is a long wait.
The loss of
Ade Akinbiyi (Leicester, £5m) and Keith Curle (Sheffield United, free) is
a blow and Wolves have done little in pre-season to suggest they are capable
of improving on last term.
Still, manager
Colin Lee is a seasoned campaigner and must have orangey-gold coloured blood
flowing through his veins by now. And even without the goals of Akinbiyi
or Curle's commanding presence in defence, Wolves should certainly finish
in the top 10.
If Lee is allowed
to plough the money back into the squad, then they could even make the play-offs.
Lee will be keen to achieve more consistency, a factor which saw them miss
out on the play-offs by just two points last term.

The arrival
of Georgian international Temuri Ketsbaia from Newcastle for £900,000, along
with the presence of two very talented Frenchmen - Steeve Epesse Titi (Bordeaux,
free) and Mohamed Camara (Le Havre, loan) - will help and, with a little
slice of luck thrown in for good measure, Wolves should not be underestimated.
