After finishing
tenth last season, Rangers fans should feel slightly optimistic about a decent
shot at the play-offs. The steady improvement under Gerry Francis is likely
to be maintained this season and the introduction of young striker Peter Crouch
to the squad should provide a bit more bite up front.
Francis has
also signed Birmingham striker Paul Furlong on a three-month loan. Rangers
have paid a £125,000 fee to borrow the former Chelsea forward and that will
be money well spent if Furlong delivers.

|
Karl Connolly
|
Other new faces
include Christer Warren from Bournemouth on a free, Clarke Carlisle from
Blackpool for £250,000, Karl Connolly from Wrexham on a free, and Danny
Grieves from Watford on a free. Losing the talented Kevin Gallen to Huddersfield
after a contract bust-up with Francis is a major blow, but Crouch should
make amends.
