After winning
the Second Division title, North End should have enough about them to hold
their own. Manager David Moyes has brought in a couple of new faces who should
bring some more bite to the midfield, but it is still likely to be an uphill
struggle.
Iain Anderson
(Toulouse, £500,000) and Steve Robinson (Bournemouth, £375,000) could be
the difference between survival and relegation. Sean Gregan, Michael Jackson,
Michael Appleton and Jon Macken have vital roles to play as Preston aim
to consolidate their position this season.
Preston fans
have waited a long time for this, so Deepdale will be buzzing. The intense
rivalry with Lancashire rivals Bolton and Blackburn will fuel North End's
determination so a mid-table finish is not out of the question. There is
also more money to spend on new players - Moyes actually offered £1
million for Sheffield Wednesday's Richard Cresswell - so the signs are encouraging.
