No prizes for
guessing how the bookmakers rate Pompey's chances this season - don't even
bet a spare quid on them making the play-offs. Eighteenth last season and
they will be lucky to finish in the top half of the table let alone the top
six.
Still, the
Fratton Park outfit are upwardly mobile under new boss Tony Pulis and with
a couple of new faces, expect to see them improving, if only slightly, with
Steve Claridge, Lee Bradbury, and new signing Lee Mills leading from the
front.

Nigel
Quashie
|
Nigel Quashie's
£600,000 arrival from Nottingham Forest is a major coup for Pulis.
The Pompey boss has also snapped up the exciting Mladen Rudonja (St Truiden,
£200,000) and Linvoy Primus (Reading, free).
Portsmouth
have more money to spend - reports from Fratton suggest as much as £2
million - so don't be surprised to see Pulis get out the cheque book at
least once more before Pompey get into their stride. It's possible that,
with the ever-so-streetwise Pulis at the hem, Alan Ball's old club could
defy the odds, but don't bank on it.
