The Canaries
are looking short of firepower now that Craig Bellamy has flown the nest
- the livewire young striker was snapped up by Coventry for a club record
£6.5m. Don't expect Brian Hamilton to spend it all in one go - but
a couple of further additions to the squad are likely.
It must be
an all-too-familiar feeling for what's traditionally been a selling club
with a decent youth policy. Chris Sutton, Ruel Fox head a list of high-profile
departures in recent years, that have earnt the Norfolk club millions, but
more than it's fair share of frustration. Homegrown strikers Ade Akinbiyi
and Jamie Cureton have blossomed since their departure from Carrow Road,
and would probably be welcomed back with open arms into a squad looking
short on proven firepower.
Scouts will
already be lining up at Carrow Road to see who might just be the next bright
young thing to be tempted away from East Anglia - and it could be all-action
midfielder Darel Russell, or maybe composed centre-back Lee Marshall.

Otherwise,
Hamilton has assembled a decent bunch of players, adding Gaetano Giallanza
(Nantes, free), Steen Nedergaard (Odense, free), Paul McVeigh (Spurs, free)
and Brian McGovern (£50,000 after a month on loan from Arsenal) to
an already capable squad. Now that Bellamy's gone, the key men are Welsh
battering ram Iwan Roberts, and former Man. United playmaker Phil Mulryne.
